Btw, it was cheap:

Square Enix says the transaction (which was only $300 million) "enables the launch of new businesses by moving forward with investments in fields including blockchain, AI, and the cloud." SE still has Just Cause, Outriders, Life is Strange

edit:  SE did not expected someone would made a bid this high.

Wow, 300 million? That is EXTREMELY cheap considering they got the Tomb Raider, Just Cause, and Deus Ex IPs along with them. In contrast, Sony paid over 200 million for Insomniac which only came with a couple of very small IPs. I guess Square was desperate to offload their western studios.

I'd like a new Deus Ex even if just to finish Adam Jensons trilogy. I also would not mind a sequel to GOTG game but now that's probably out.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Dirt cheap. Surprised no one offered more.

That low ass price means MS didn't even put in an offer. You would think they would have considering Crystal Dynamics is on Perfect Dark. The fact MS didn't outbid Embracer here tells me they are terrified to acquire anything else before the Activision-Blizzard deal closes for fear of regulators blocking Activision-Blizzard, which means those rumors that Xbox is among the parties interested in acquiring the Warner Bros Interactive studios and IP licensing rights are probably false, they won't bid on WB Interactive stuff if they didn't even bother to bid on Square Enix West.

Just Cause is staying with Square, but Embracer did get Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Legacy of Cain, and apparently Sleeping Dogs IP's out of it, plus more. Truly incredible value for $300m, Embracer paid $1b for Gearbox and they didn't even come with the full Borderlands IP, they share it with 2K, they only got full ownership on Duke Nukem, Brothers in Arms, and Homeworld IP's, none of which are currently huge, Duke and BiA are both dormant for more than a decade, while Homeworld is relatively niche.

Maybe we can actually get a new Sleeping Dogs game now, first one was a good game.

That would be a dream come true for me. Do It Embracer, give that IP to one of your 100+ studios and make a sequel happen, hire as many former devs from United Front, the developer of the first, as you can.

It might seem cheap, but I am sure in terms of sales/profits, SE West has been underperforming significantly. Now a lot of that blame could be due to SE themselves, but they seem to think that they can't do any better anyways.
