Forums - Gaming Discussion - Former CD Projekt devs establish new AAA studio, Rebel Wolves, working on AAA Dark Fantasy RPG

They will be developing a AAA, story driven, dark fantasy RPG Saga built on Unreal Engine 5 for PC and next Gen consoles (unsure if they mean PS5/Xbox Series here, or PS6 and Xbox Series 2).

“We’re industry veterans, but we’re hungry for more,” reads a message on the studio’s official website. “We want to create amazing virtual worlds, filled to the brim with powerful emotions and unique experiences. Most of all, we want to share our boundless passion for video games. We know what players love, because we’re players ourselves.”

The studio’s mission statement is as follows:

We want to do two things. Sounds modest? Well, keep reading.

One is to revolutionize the RPG genre. We love these games, we’ve been playing and making them for decades—and now we want to take them a step further. Our titles will be quality driven and innovative. We don’t want to create another game, we want to create the game. We’re experts in our respective fields, confident in our abilities, and wildly passionate about what we do.

Second—is to create a studio where developers can thrive, united by a common goal and a sense of camaraderie. Our priority is the team, and the team’s priority is to create the best RPG games the world has seen.

Ambitious? Watch us.

Cool, I suppose.

Will be interesting if they try to be distinct from CDPR or not.

Does it always have to be dark fantasy?

Excited to see what they will come up with, but it'll probably be a while before we see anything concrete from them.

The director of The Witcher 3, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, announced his resignation from CD Projekt following an investigation into allegations of bullying.

According to Bloomberg, Tomaszkiewicz has been under investigation for mobbing, the Polish term for bullying, for several months. Tomaszkiewicz denies these allegations and was found to be not guilty by that investigation, but according to an internal email sent to CD Projekt staff, he has decided to leave the company.

In the message, Tomaszkiewicz wrote, "nonetheless, a lot of people are feeling fear, stress or discomfort when working with me." He also apologized for "all the bad blood I have caused."

Great start for a new company!

Yeah, honestly I'm a little tired of dark fantasy RPGs, we've gotten tons of them.

I love dark fantasy, but I'm really sad to see that the only Dark Fantasy games that are out here today, are Souls or rogue-like games, games that are primarily designed to just be as hard as possible, instead of a good RPG dark fantasy that isn't trying to make the game feel like a boxing match or a chore.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Dark fantasy is kind of their specialty, these are all departmental directors who worked on Witcher 3, which is of course a dark fantasy game.
