Forums - Gaming Discussion - Unity Acquires Weta Digital

Unreal has deservedly taken a lot of the spotlight when it comes to showing off what the new generation of real time rendering will be capable of, but Unity isn't standing still either with the acquisition of famed VFX company Weta Digital and the intention to make their tech and assets available to more and more creators. Will probably be some time before this new relationship truly bears fruit but hopefully the democratization of advanced tools like these continues and it will be interesting to see what creations they yield. That said, repeated talk of cloud services and the 'metaverse' could be cause for concern, and I didn't notice mention of these tools necessarily being free like with Unreal. Perhaps they're gearing up for a subscription service model like Adobe has adopted.

Please not subscription-based, that'd lead it to costing an arm and a leg just for the best parts. -_-
