Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox Series S is an emulation beast

Modern Vintage Gamer tried a couple of emulators on the console playing some NES, SNES, N64, PSP, Dreamcast, Gamecube, and Wii. He also thinks there is a high chance of running WiiU and Switch games in the future.

I wonder if Sony and Nintendo will do something about this.

Pretty cool albeit niche feature

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Probably they won't. RetroArch has been available on Xbox One for quite some time already. Also, there is no legal way for them to block it. RetroArch is just an emulator. It doesn't get distributed with any ROMs or BIOS files.

You are correct, but if this becomes widely spread I can totally see Nintendo at least trying to shut it down.

Pretty cool, the ability to emulate pretty much every pre 6th gen console and handheld is nice, and he said PS2 is coming soon as well. Great emulation value for $300, and you'll definitely be able to get Series S for $200 or less later in the gen.

Yeah, PCSX2 is added in PC version of RetroArch so it is possible they will add it to Xbox version as well. Seems like Persona 3 and 4 at least are coming to Xbox after all.

Good to know more people will be able to play Gamecube games without breaking the bank. GC games are $80 and up now. But emulating the Switch? That's downright piracy.

Astral Chain at 60fps sounds very tasty
