Forums - Gaming Discussion - Possible Hostage Situation at Ubisoft Montreal Edit: Seems to have been a false alarm

  • Reports by multiple Canadian news organizations
  • Police on site
  • Some employees have been moved to the roof of the building which has had the stairwell door barricaded for safety with tables and chairs
  • Others are said to be barricaded in various conference rooms
  • There is a possible group of suspects, not just one hostage taker
  • Group is reportedly holding dozens of Ubisoft employees hostage
  • Police are requesting that nobody call or text an Ubisoft Montreal employee in case they are hiding from the hostage takers
  • No injuries reported so far
  • Group has asked for a ransom supposedly

Really hope this is resolved with no innocent deaths. If they have to kill whoever took the hostage in order to save the hostage, so be it, but hopefully they can talk the hostage taker down.

Will be interesting to hear more details on this. Was it a former employee that got fired? An employee who is sick and tired of the reported poor workplace conditions at Ubisoft who decided to take it out by holding the management hostage? A jilted lover? Some random nutjob off the street?

Some new details coming in:

  • There is reportedly a group of suspects, not just one hostage taker
  • They are reportedly holding dozens of Ubisoft employees hostage

This sounds like a possible terrorist plot, far more serious situation than I first imagined.

A ransom has been asked.

It might be an opportunistic armed group who thought the rich Ubisoft would be an easy target to demand money from.

Seems like it was some kind of prank in the end ...

Glad it wasn't life-threatening at least. That's next-gen console power for you. It feels so real! But seriously very glad no one was hurt. I hope they find who did the prank and punish them to the fullest extent of the law.
