Hey everyone,
This is a short post to inform you all that there will be scheduled downtime tomorrow. Precise time we're not sure on yet, but I'm told the downtime should last around 3-4 hours.
Site Redesign
The downtime is to allow us to switch to the new version of the site that @TalonMan has been busy working on for the past few months. The main change is a visual update to the front page. Talon's also completely updated the menus at the top of the site, added new features to article pages, made changes to site review scoring, and finally done a lot of work on forum profiles and settings (at the insistence/nagging of @Ryuu96 !).
Lots of neat little features and options too, but nothing too radical - we're well aware from past experience that too much radical change has been poorly received by the community, so almost everything remains where it currently is and is accessed in the same way, but it's now much prettier and more modern.
@Ryuu96 has created a guide to most of the changes that he'll post at some point.
Bug Reporting & Constructive Feedback
We've pretty extensively beta tested the redesign, but it's possible (maybe even probable) that you will come across some issues when it goes live. Please report any issues you have in this thread so that @TalonMan can check them out and fix them asap. By this we mean problems/bugs and genuine constructive feedback; please do not bother Talon with unconstructive complaints that x or y has changed and you want it reverted.
Supporters
As a goodwill gesture to Supporters and to make up for tomorrow's downtime, I'll be adding an extra week to all Supporters' subscriptions on the 8th of November.
I think that covers everything. We hope you like the redesign - it contains several months' worth of work and fixes to some of the most common complaints and issues staff and users alike have had with the current site.
