Recently Sony talked about the backwards compatibility of PS5, and posted a list of games confirmed to not work on PS5.
The list is subject to change (as more games are tested).
Earlier today there was some confusion as Ubisoft posted an article listing some of their games as "Not backwards compatible" on PS5, but then removed the article, citing;
“We have pulled the Ubisoft Connect article and forum post re backwards compatibility for the time being as there may be inaccuracies involving the Ubisoft titles that will be playable on PS5.”
The list of Ubisoft games can be found in the link above.
We'll have to wait for a followup statement to see what may have been inaccurate.
Though on the subject, someone datamined the new Playstation site (https://library.playstation.com) and found that it lists the BC status of a lot of games.
Here's a list of them: https://andshrew.github.io/supreme-enigma/
Games BC status is divided into four categories.
- COMPATIBLE - "To play this game on PS5, your system may need to be updated to the latest system software. Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent"
- BOOTABLE - "When playing on PS5, this game may exhibit errors or unexpected behaviour and some features available on PS4 may be absent. To play this game on PS5, your system may need to be updated to the latest system software"
- NOT_COMPATIBLE - Only playable on on PS4
- N/A - No information available in API (mostly old alpha, beta, and demo titles)
Note that this data is clearly still a work in progress. Last week it listed P.T. as COMPATIBLE, but it now lists it as NOT_COMPATIBLE.
It's possible that some of the Ubisoft games may be amended in the same way.
