Forums - Gaming Discussion - Report- Level-5 has shutdown their North American division, one source reports that they will no longer release games in the west

If this is true, one would assume that their games will only release outside of Japan if another publisher makes a deal to localize them, for instance Nintendo making a deal to localize future Layton and Yokai Watch games in the west as Switch exclusives.

There goes Yokai Watch 4 localization. Fuck. In other future news, Microsoft purchases Level-5 to get their Japanese studio.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Article states that they've been running on a skeleton crew since last year, so this is something that's been going on for a while. Shame to hear that we may not see localizations of any of their games anymore.

But why? Were their foreign sales really that bad?

Bet Shiken that COD would outsell Battlefield in 2018. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8749702

Honestly, they may be more receptive to a MS acquisition if their financial situation is as bad as it seems to be. I think they would allow MS to acquire them if MS told them that they could keep releasing their games on Switch, in addition to Xbox/PC/xCloud releases.

That's sad to know.
Hope some publishers pick up their games publications around here.

Seriously, Level-5 has some of the worst management in the industry so this comes as no surprise.

Well, I'm pretty sure that the latest Layton and Ni No Kuni 2 didn't sell very well, especially in the west (I seem to recall Layton debuting at 29th place in Europe, while Ni No Kuni 2 over-shipped in the west and was selling for $20 off less than a month after release). Yokai Watch is their main seller now, and even it has seen declining sales, with Yokai Watch 4 selling less than 3, and 3 selling less than 2. If things keep going the way they're going, I could see Level-5 completely folding within a few years, unless somebody acquires them before them and starts managing them properly.

This is ridiculous! What has flown into the heads of Level 5? Can’t believe these people are the creators of DQ8, Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy. This is depressing 😠

I am a Nintendo fanatic.

Seems like mismanagement
