Forums - Gaming Discussion - Michel Ancel leaves the gaming industry, Wild and BGE&2 still in development without him

"Today is very special for me. After more than 30 years, I’ve decided to stop working on video games and fully focus on my second passion: wildlife! My new project takes place in the real world and consists in a wildlife open sanctuary dedicated to education, nature lovers, and… wild animals.

Video Games Part

Many of you might want to know what will happen to WiLD and Beyond Good and Evil 2. No worries, since many months now the teams are autonomous and the projects are going super well. Beautiful things to be seen soon.

May the fox be with you."

Oh man :(

If there was a video game Mount Rushmore, I'd include him. He's made so many brilliant, memorable games.

Ah yes, WiLD, the game that was announced 6 years ago and has nothing to show for it is going super well.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I will believe these games exist, only when they are sitting on store shelves.

TBF when was the last time he finished a project? These 2 games have been in development hell for years and for BG&E2 at least 12 years. Kinda feels like he left 10 years ago.

Well, it is still in development, that much I can confirm. The studio has 33 devs currently according to LinkedIn, and they are still working on Wild. In order to sustain that size they're getting fed money from somewhere, presumably Sony since the game is a PS exclusive. Rather or not the game is actually making good progress though, I can't say. Definitely being transferred to PS5 I'm sure.

Well shit, there go my hopes for another Rayman game to be released soon.

I'm behind the curve here: what were the last games he's released?

Rayman Legends in 2013. He had been developing Wild since 2013 with Wild Sheep Studio, and Beyond Good and Evil 2 with Ubisoft since 2016.

7 years later and still no sequel to Rayman Legends. One of the best platformers of all time. Bye Michel. We need more Rayman!
