Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox Series releasing in Japan day 1, JP pricing revealed

Unlike Xbox One, which took 10+ months to release in Japan, Xbox Series will be available day one in Japan, November 10th. Series S costs 32,980 yen, Series X costs 49,980 yen. For reference, Xbox One had a Kinectless SKU for 39,980 yen, and a Kinect SKU for 49,980 yen when it released.

Not as nice by comparison.

Yikes, that is indeed terrible pricing. Looking online, I see that Xbox One was 600 AUD at launch, so Series X is 150 more, despite both being $500 at release in the US. Only PS3 cost more at release 830 AUD for the 20 GB model and 1000 AUD for the 60 GB model apparently. 500 AUD for Series S is also very high.

Well, at least you can trade in your Xbox One S or X for a substantial discount, Series S and X have full XB1 backwards compatibility.

Yeah the Series S is the same price as the Switch. PS5 will be very expensive as well compared to the PS4. If you are in a contract with Telstra then the Xbox All access seems like a better deal. Or do the trading option.

Pocky Lover Boy!

How does this compare to Switch in Japan?

Japan has a 10% sales tax so the console is considerably cheaper in Japan than in the US.

Gret news for the 8 buyers that are already lining up at the stores

Comparatively here in Kiwi land, prices aren't too much worse. Considering we're almost 10 cents down on the Australian dollar.

(Prices from EB Games NZ Facebook page)

Bizarrely, Xbox Series S actually costs the same amount with trade-in. Only EB Games could somehow attribute the same value to an Xbox One S and One X.

I'm in for a "$100 off" by default anyway. A former co-worker had a $500 eb gift card they didn't want. I bought it for $400.

Win win.
