Forums - Gaming Discussion - 2020 CoD is called Black Ops Cold War according to Eurogamer

This year's Call of Duty is called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Bunker down.

This autumn's Call of Duty game is called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, according to a leak backed up by Eurogamer's own sources.

Call of Duty leaker Okami posted a mocked-up box cover with the correct title on Twitter last night. It's fair to say this isn't the artwork you'll see later this year, but the title is on the money.

As the name suggests, Treyarch's Black Ops series is returning to its roots with a historical setting. Treyarch's series began in the 1960s, before leaping into the future for its sequels.

It's a similar situation to Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare, which after several sequels got a soft reboot last year.

As Eurogamer reported yesterday, Call of Duty battle royale Warzone has begun a set of teases to do with its locked bunkers, which will slowly hint at a Cold War setting over time. There's more to come there before Activision makes Cold War official, though of course players have already glitched through walls and seen some of what is in store, including a Cold War era spyplane.

The setting is not a huge surprise, then, but it's a more interesting reveal than what we're used to. After all, Call of Duty always leaks, every year.

This will be the fifth major Black Ops game from Treyarch, just two years after the last. One of my favourite things about Call of Duty 4, stylised as Call of Duty IIII, was that Christian Donlan visited the British Museum to talk about why it was IIII and not IV.

Activision declined to comment when contacted.

I'm really not a big fan of the fact that we're getting another Black Ops game when Black Ops 4 was just 2 years ago. I have no idea what went down between Sledgehammer's leadership and Activision that caused Sledgehammers founders to leave and got Sledgehammer's 2020 CoD cancelled, but it sucks ass that they're rushing out this Black Ops reboot with just 2 years of development.

Rumor is Sledgehammer got downgraded to a multi team assist and small project studio, and 2021's CoD will be Modern Warfare reboot 2, which means it too will get just 2 years of development. CoD needs 3 main studios on a rotation so that these games can get 3 years of development. What is Activision thinking?

Good setting but im worried about the short development time.

I am interested but I will see how the reviews go

COD is really overdoing it now. Yeah a new main release was expected but they also launched Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered and Warzone this year. How much COD do they expect people to play?
