Forums - Gaming Discussion - How to Revive E3?

They really need to drop the "Influencers" focus that they planned for 2020. I think that is the main reason Sony just flat out stopped caring about E3. Putting a bunch of people who are internet-famous for playing games, on the same level as people who make games is just a joke. At other conventions celebrities are the focus, because those are the people driving that industry. Star Trek, Football, Comics, etc., all have celebrities at conventions because those are the people who make the entertainment.

E3 should focus on game series, and their creators. Every year 5-10 game series should be picked to be a focus of the show. That way we get all those awesome E3 previews, but also a focus on the past, and who really works in the industry.

Also, the industry really needs to unionize. People getting paid $40,000 a year to work 12 hours a day six days a week, on a contractual basis, when video games turn around and make millions is BS. Especially when there's MTX involved. Yes, there's an endless line of young college grads waiting to replace most industry employees. But businesses need to see the value in keeping people around long term, and not burning them out. If 70% of your staff has five years under their belt, they are going to be able to make their games much faster than a studio that has 70% of employees as new hires.

Dont. Let it die.

But if you were to revive it, I guess the main thing is to bring back what its lost: have studios drop their biggest announcements, console/game presentations in live conferences during the show, as opposed to having them do a direct on their own. Conferences should be shorter and to the point as well, sometimes they go for hours and present so little. Make the studios and games themselves be the focus as opposed to tournaments, media personalities, etc, etc. Booths and game tryouts are just a bonus, but the presentations of new games/consoles is always the main draw IMO.

But that'd depend on the studios themselves and some (like Sony) seem to have an issue with how E3 handles their logistic.
Alternatively, fuse it with another event. Make it part of Comic-Con perhaps. But I know that idea will not get a lot of traction.
So again, let it die. Lets not put it in a pedestal.

Totally agree with Jpcc86. Let it die.

I think it's about time to try new stuff.

Even before the pandemic, E3 was dying slowly for years. Its relevancy has been slipping for some time now. Let E3 die.

Maybe it's just an idea who's time has passed.

Step 1: Get rid of the Virus
Step 2: Get tons of hookers to offer free sex and pancakes
Step 3: Resolve disagreements with companies since without them, the entire event is useless

To me the way to revive E3 would be to have Nintendo give presentations on stage again, make it easier to attend, and focus less on CGI trailers and financial numbers. I don't think any of those things will happen. E3 should probably just die at this point.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 151 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 57 million (was 60 million, then 67 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Honestly though, I don't think E3 will go away. It will just become the Simpsons of gaming events. Lamer every year, and refuses to go away.

I agree wholeheartedly with those points. Influencers have become an annoying presence at E3, even if they are ones I like like Arin Hanson or Andre Meadows.

For those who insistently say let it die, what do you think could replace E3?

We have a million game show events now anyway. E3's origin was it was started because there was none. Now we have several plus with stuff like Inside Xbox. PSX. State of Play. Nintendo Direct. News gets out fast and easy now. E3 is just redundant and unnecessary now.

You take a time machine and go back 30 years, when internet wasn't a properly utilized tool. While you're at it try to revive newspapers, music CDs and Blockbuster.
