Depending on what they do with it, this could be a really cool thing. The original Nier was a game with a great story, cast of characters and music, but the gameplay and graphics were somewhat lacking, so all they really need to do in my opinion is update the graphics and make the gameplay more in line with Nier: Automata, and it could be an excellent port/remaster/whatever it's going to be.

Yeah, so long as Platinum updates the combat we're in for a fantastic remake!

Do not get your hopes. "Not a remake or remaster" but a retooling; its the equivalent to a patch. Platinum games guy is on the project to make the combat more enjoyable, but its not being redone or anything.

Finally some good news in 2020.

I never played the original, but I was hoping they'd do a Remaster/Remake/Whatever for the 10th anniversary.
From what I hear people like the story, but the gameplay graphics could be improved. So with updated graphics and Platinum working on it again, it sounds like the issues will hopefully be ironed out.

The two different versions from my understanding was just a replacement of the main character to be the father of the girl instead of the brother, in the Xbox 360 (in Japan) and western release.

I like the brother's design a lot more. Which is also the original design. The father character was only created because they didn't think western fans would like the younger design as much. And I don't fall into that category, so I prefer getting Replicant, which was the original vision anyway.

"The developers believed that the Japanese audience would respond more strongly to a younger protagonist, while non-Japanese audiences would prefer an adult Nier character.[32] Other than changing Nier's appearance and modifying a few lines of dialogue to fit with Nier being a father rather than a brother to Yonah, the developers made no changes between the two versions;[5] while it was initially believed that the older Nier was the character's original design,[5] an interview with Yoko clarified that the young Nier was the original vision."

Wow. Looking at those posters, we're literally getting downgraded from the Chad Father to the Virgin Brother. Unfortunate, but I'll probably still buy.

doesn't the brother version involves some light incest moments or something like that? I think that would be the main reason for the father version.

Papa nier is best. Not as anime. He's ugly as hell and it works. A father saving a daughter has a much bigger emotional impact to me. Papa nier is middle-aged,typically in anime 30 years old is 60 years old lol. So it was nice to go against the norm. Not to mention the English cast were excellent.

Platinum are not working on it. It is being developed by the studio that made Contra: Rogue Corps which is not good news tbh. But, they would be supervised by Takahisa Taura from Platinum who was the main game designer of Nier: Automata and director of Astral Chain.

Agree. The father motivation seems to suit the plot better, but as I haven't played Replicant version I can't judge it. I think it's great that they've chosen Replicant though, I have Gestalt on 360, so playing Replicant would also be nice.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

I've wanted to play this game so this is good, however, must admit that we are getting way too many remasters this gen.
Hopefully that won't be the same case next gen.
