Animal Crossing New Horizons numbers have just dropped on Famitsu!

First week physical (March 20-22) sales of 1,880,626. A new record for the series, and by far the best Switch debut.

[NSW] Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo) {2020.03.20} (¥5.980) - 1.880.626 / NEW
[NSW] Pokemon Sword / Shield # (Pokemon Co.) {2019.11.15} (¥5.980) - 1.364.544 / NEW

[3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf # (Nintendo) {2012.11.08} (¥4.800) - 721.786 / NEW

[WII] Animal Crossing: City Folk # (Nintendo) {2008.11.20} (¥5.800) - 303.204 / NEW

Switch sales for the week were 392,576, a new weekly record (including launch and holidays!). With this week, it has topped the Wii's lifetime Japanese sales.

Tom Nook is too powerful. .
.
With digital included (most recent Switch titles have been about 35% digital - I'd argue AC would be even higher), we are looking at first week sales of over 3m. The biggest launch ever in Japan across all consoles..
.
The previous record holders were Pokemon Black/White at 2.6m and Final Fantasy VIII at 2.5m..
.
Animal Crossing is a fucking monster for sales.

AC is easily going to be the #1 Switch game LT in Japan, I can't wait to see WW numbers.

So the game sold 1.88mil with digital it could be at or even over 3mil.

A very optimistic but realistic scenario could be a second week of close to 1mil (let’s say 900k) and if digital sales are close to 40% we might be looking at a ship+Digital of around 4.5mil in Japan

It and the virus has the Switch selling out like crazy everywhere around me in the US.

Wow.

The quarterly sales of Animal Crossing in the earnings report will be a sight to see. Also, the game pretty much perfectly matched the sales of all the earlier games combined (excluding digital, so it has actually far exceeded it). EDIT: Nevermind that last sentence, OP misses Amiibo Festival and more importantly the original on N64/GameCube.

Where are the rest of the numbers?

Holy shit.
Do we know yet what the Lite to regular Switch ratio is?
Did stock come back strong all of a sudden or are they just gobbling up the last Lites left?

Try out my free game on Steam

Nintendo | PlayStation | Multiplat

Mother of God! I was expecting a large opening, but this is simply insane. Nintendo utterly dominates in Japan and is positioned in a great way to take on the next-gen systems from Sony/MS. It's a beautiful turnaround!

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Switch is killing it. Congrats on yet another success.

If we just count all previous mainline AC games (excluding Amiibo Festival/Happy Home Designer) I'm 100% sure that NH has outdone them all combined. Digital included, it's outdone everything including those two (and likely even including all the 5000 re-releases the original game had on N64 and GC)

They only released the numbers for AC, full-week sales are to come later: https://www.famitsu.com/news/202003/25195316.html

They only said 394k Switches, no word on ratio yet. I'd guess they held a lot of stock in reserve for this.
