Shoppers are panic buying gaming consoles in a desperate move to avoid boredom in isolation as the country goes into shutdown due to COVID-19.
Gaming consoles including the Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4 have been wiped off shelves at JB Hi-Fi, with either limited or no remaining stock for the next month.
"Due to very high demand, the Nintendo Switch Grey Console is currently unavailable to purchase. Next stock is due to arrive in April," a JB Hi-FI store message read.
"I heard rumours lockdown was happening soon, so I wanted to get in before they sold out," she said.
"I've never been someone who likes staying at home.
Well i am glad they are not rushing to buy Toilet paper, btw Switch price also inflated quickly thanks to low stock and high demand

In our case (noting we're both from Australia) some of this is definitely demand, but its also the 15-20% collapse in our currency.

I agree but the pricing should not change this quickly the new stock in april is fine just depends on when they ordered it but any price hikes now is just gouging and should be stamped out look at the petrol price it goes up straight away but takes weeks to drop, btw I thought Hollygamer was from Indonesia.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Not unexpected. Victoria seems to be on way to a total lock down.

How are you guys going with work?

I work for the ATO and we're currently trialling 500 staff to work at home...

Hopefully it isn't needed...

What is JB Hi-Fi?

I’ve seen this first hand with the Switch. Especially since AC came out. That game is going to sell billions.

PS4 and Xbone flying off the shelves around here, not so much.

It's our biggest electronics store/chain. They're doing well during the digital age. Growing, even.

Might be but she quoted an Aussie retailer haha.

There may be an element of gouging but...like compared to petrol and food and power I just dont think getting on top of console price responses to demand should be a priority.

I dunno, a lot of experts saying the country should lock down.

I am still working for now.
