Forums - Gaming Discussion - 2017 or 2020? Better first 4 months for console games?

2017. I have not bought a newly released game unless you count ports. 2017 I could not keep a dime in my wallet all year.

In 2017, I was personally interested in
Resident Evil 7, Gravity Rush 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier Automata, and Breath of the Wild. In fact, every single one of those were day one purchases.

2020, I want DBZ (haven't bought it yet), Animal Crossing (for my daughter--I'm not even gonna play it), Resident Evil 3 and Final Fantasy VII--both of which are pre-ordered.

I just logged in an additional 80 hours of BotW in the past two weeks so that alone puts 2017 ahead of 2020 for me.

Ori needs to be in the op (if it is, I don't see it)! Fantastic game.

Still too early to judge with major titles yet to release such as Resident evil 3 remake and FF7 remake. Objectively speaking however, 2017 is an all time great year especially the first 4 months but I believe 2020 is off to a great start. Personally FF7 is the game im looking forward to most in the 4 month period. That game for me will determine if 2020 will surpass 2017 not just in the first 4 months but the entire year. FF7 remake is a make or break game that 2020 hinges on for me.

The first 4 months of 2017 were some of the worst periods of my life, so I didn't enjoyed any games back then.

In 2020 I'm excited for Final Fantasy VII Remake, Trials of Mana and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Resident Evil 3 Remake also looks promising.

Haven't played enough of either year to know really. I will say that I think 2019 was as good as 2017 overall, and this year will probably be the same. Though, that could just be because I've yet to play many of the 2017 games out there.

2017 seems to have a greater variety of big big titles, but 2020 seems to have possibly more refined experiences (Ori 2, Nioh 2, Persona 5 R etc.)

2017:
Got: Persona 5, Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn (technically didn't buy it, but played in on PS Now recently)

Interested: Nier: Automata

2020:

Bought/going to buy: WC3 Reforged, FF7 (when it comes to PC)

Interested: RE3, New Horizons

All in all I think 2017 was stronger mostly thanks to Botw and Persona 5.

If Reforged had launched in a better state I might have chosen 2020, because WC3 is one of my all time favorites, but for now while the campaign is still fantastic, it has done more damage than good compared to the original.

Too early to say tbh, this is something I could answer better in may since Trials of Mana, RE3 and FF7R are the ones im looking forward to this first half of 2020 and havent released. Doom Eternal and Nioh2 are alright and im not particularly interested in the rest of the mentioned games of 2020.
So as of now, 2017 is my answer. Those games very easily top the ones that have released and I have played in 2020.

It's hard to make 2017 lose in these types of comparisons. It kicked so much ass.

1.) For 2020, I'm interested in Trials of Mana, REmake 3, Final Fantasy 7: Remake, I bought and loved Ori and the Will of the Wisps
From 2017, I bought and loved RE:VII (only played it this year though), Horizon Zero Dawn, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, Persona 5, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I own Nier: Automata, will play it soon.

2.) 2017 wins /Tekken-announcer-voice.

Signature goes here!

Well I'm not going to be able to come up with ten for 2017 or 2020s first 4 months.
I'll have to stretch to ports in order for this to look resonable.
I've put the games that I haven't got yet in bold.

2017
Night in the Woods
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild
Snipperclips
Fast RMX(Wii U remaster)
Super Bomberman R
Snake Pass
Wonder Boy and the Dragon's Trap Remake
Kamiko
Puyo Puyo Tetris Switch port? Does that count?
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Barely a new release)

2020
Dr Kawashima's Brain Training for Nintendo Switch
Two Point Hosital came to consoles
Samurai Shodown Reboot came to Switch, does that count?
Landgrisser 1 & 2 Remake
Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York
Mount and Blade 2 (I won't touch it untill it's far out of early access)
Silver Falls 3 Down Stars for the 3DS is the only game I've bought in 2020 that was released in 2020.
