Forums - Sony Discussion - Based on what we know about the PS5: What do you think is the cheapest it can can be and break even; What will be the actual price?

And lets pretend that SONY had a 399 console they priced at 499. How would you feel about that?

Just got a surprisingly good Tax Return. Gonna take $500 of it and put it away for the PS5 pre order. Had me thinking about these questions.

I’m expecting anything between 399.99 and 499.99USD.

Hopefully, they understand that one of the reason the PS4 sold so well was because it was at the sweet spot of 399.99.

Probably closer to $449 USD I think with the series X at $499.

Then again, who knows. Cheaper the better, but I'll opt for the most powerful device either way.

$450-$500. I doubt they will exceed $500.

450 with sony losing 50 per console sold but recovering with PS+ and one game, so basically every console already sold without loss.

PS5 will be $500, not a penny less.
People expecting a lower price because XSX is stronger are in for a treat.
Both consoles are expensive and very capable piece of hardware.

Most likely not,Sony never used such a pricing for a launch and it has been rare for all brands to use such a launch price in the last 15 years.

It is sometimes used as pricing for a more expensive second type of a product but rarely for this, even if it can be priced at **,49 companies will tend to up it to **,99 because of the conception that products with more 9's in the last digits get sold more.(And lower it to ,99 because the first digits are what resonate the most so it does feel like a lot lower priced then just that one cent while instinctively still having the attraction of the 9,s)

Also,do you mostly play multiplatform games?

Sony can surprise afew people with the pricing. Most of its price might come from its SSD however since its inhouse, they might be a lot more flexible with the price.
I am guessing no lower than $400 and no higher than $499. Its a safe guess however it feels more like reality.

Just because it has never happened, doesn't mean it can't happen.

I play a mix of multiplat and exclusives.

For consoles, I don't care so much about the exclusives, you have the rare game on Switch (Zelda), Xbox (Halo) or Playstation (Uncharted) that I *might* be interested in, but for the most part, the exclusives I want are on PC.

Depends on if Lockhart exists, and what price it lands at. If PS feels they need to subsidize at all, if not heavily to compete with both more equally, they will. Depends on how they want to market it against both competitors, if the cheaper one exists.

$399 - $499
