Forums - Sony Discussion - Why we cannot compare PS5 and Xbox series X directly, EDIT : add Resident Evil 3 remake and DOOM Eternal that run better on PS4 Pro as an example, also add EX- Crytek Developer and programer testimon

I wouldn’t call it downplaying. Truth be told both systems are great machines. People just going by the criteria they been comparing for generations: who has the most power.

I get it that It’s in Sony’s best interests to really push the ssd aspect since that’s the one spec they have on Xbox. But apples to oranges if you look at the spec sheets side by side Series X edges it out in almost every category

Your statement are complicating each other, how can you determine the spec edging each other if you even cannot compare apples and orange LOL. You gotta  choose between "you can compare " or " cannot compare ". Even on paper it cannot and it need further test and benchmark. Also even if there is a different only 15% less, and i believe all game studio want to bring their games on the same quality across the platform. They will sacrifices 15% different to bring parity for both.

Well for me personally, as a non-tech guy I couldnt care less about the ndetails of the power. I consider current gen graphics to be adequate and while an upgrade between gens is nice, the minor differences between the two dont seem significant to me.

However, I am very excited about the new SSDs for the new consoles (and especially the ps5) . The demo they did showing loading on Spider-man was great, and i remember hearing how the makers of GOW had just about reached their limit implementing that single shot technique. The SSD on ps5 should hopefully make this much easier to implement for GOW2. Additionally, if this can reduce development time, which has been getting longer every gen, then that is equally as great. Most of all, I still want to know WHERE ARE THE GAMES!!! IT IS ALL ABOUT THE GAMES!!!

Loading a game, fast travel and reload after die in 1s is like a dream =]

Besides all the new design approaches will bring.

And yes GoW was made with single panel philosophy, like a movie that was made without any cut, just transition from scene to scene.

Another SSD thread. It really is the Xbone secret sauce of this gen.

Well, except we know it exists. And devs are actually excited about it too. Hmm. Guess they really are nothing alike.

Not really secret when it is revealed formally.

Oops I misspoke. “Apples to apples”. I’m just gonna say that it’s only 15% when PS5 is overclocked. When it’s not it becomes 25%. You can’t expect it to be chugging along non stop unless you ok with it sounding like a jet engine. Just a theory.

But yes I do agree that multiplats will be largely on par. Mayyybe a slight resolution difference.

Man I think it is the third time I correct you on this.

The boost mode was designed to work 100% of the time and the cooling solution was made around it. TDP will be constant, the thermal will be the same indenpendent of where you are. The frequency will change depending of the load to not overshoot the TDP. As he said if 10% less drain is needed it would be achieved with a very small % drop on the frequency.

Also Cerny admitted that their solution to cooling on PS1-4 wasn't always the best solution because of their way to "guess" the worse case, this time they arbitrated it and designed around it, so no jet engine scenario should be expected (although I don't really care about the noise).

Well this is the first I’ve read (I think, it’s early), noted and thanks for the explanation.

But anyway, Probably will be quite common to have the difference nearing 20% on GPU or CPU/GPU load.

Not really into the technical aspect of games but I'm guessing we'll see these advantages of the superior PS5 SSD mostly on Sony's first party titles. I'm guessing third parties won't be making a special version of their game for PS5 and they'll stick to what works on XBX, PS5 and PC at the same time.

Yes there will be some slightly different  and nobody denied that accept some lunatic fanboy that attach to a toy box. Is like comparing each apples in every store for an inch or for a slightly different weight in milligram  that even  expert laughing off what's the point of arguing that something you cannot enjoy. Both of system has different approach on game design and target.
