" Nintendo Switch Online, the console’s multiplayer service, as well as the eShop digital store have largely been inaccessible for many over the past couple of hours. The outage appears to be worldwide."

"Although Nintendo didn’t specify, the outage is likely a result of a surge in user activity now that more and more people are stuck home thanks to coronavirus-related curfews and such. This is what happened with Xbox Live over the weekend. It’s also the same witnessed by other services, such as Discord. "

I see that tweet is from Nintendo of Europe.  I confirm that I didn't have any trouble using the Online service or the eShop in the US yesterday.

I couldn't access it for a brief time.  It's resolved by now though.

I wonder if this will cause more people to get physical copies of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, even with the COVID-19 pandemic. If you haven't already preordered and downloaded the game, you're not gonna wanna deal with struggles with the eShop.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 151 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 57 million (was 60 million, then 67 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

I made sure to get mine preordered and downloaded the first opportunity I could yesterday.  Did it remotely from work, so no idea how long it actually took to download.  Feel much better now.  Of course, physical or not, we all need the servers up when it launches so the game can authenticate.
