Forums - Sony Discussion - Report: Sony looking to acquire Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Silent Hill IP's from Konami, Kojima involvement planned

Hard to say if this is true, simply because Silent Hill, Castlevania and Metal Gear is like 75% of the IPs(in terms of value) from Konami. If they are bought, Konami is left with Bomberman, Contra, and smaller IPs like Suikoden and that baseball game.

I don't think Konami is interested in selling the IPs, no matter how shitty and uninterested they became with games. However, I easily see them making partnerships and "renting" their IPs to others so that they make games based on them.I think that's the case here.

Say you have a car and a TV I would like to buy from you? Why the fuck should I buy your whole house just to get them when those are the only two things I care about?

Because by buying Castlevania, MGS and Silent Hills, you are basically clearing them out. Why would people want to support anti-consumer decisions like these?

This will breed other companies to do the same. Let's say if Google Stadia brought these IPs instead of Sony and they promised to make them big AAA budget titles, would you be happy about it?

Because Konami isn't interested to make games anymore to begin with?

If the choice is between having Nintendo buy them and make games exclusive to the Switch and having no Castlevania, Metal Gear or Silent Hill at all, I'll take the first option with zero guilt in my mind. The same applies to Google.

It could spark a rush to buy studios by giants like Ms and Google.

Konami would likely licence them to Sony rather sell them. They make a lot of money from cassino machines themed by their ips. It doesn't make sense to sell them to Sony and lose both income from these ip sales and themed pachinko magines.

Acquisition sounds a lot different than collaboration.

So basicly anything that Konami still owns of value.

As a player who prefers to play games on PC when possible, I'm not a huge fan of the idea since it would probably mean they'd be entirely Sony exlusive in the future (The thing I liked most about The Phantom Pain was finally being able to play an MGS game on PC, even if the port could have been better).
But I guess on the other hand that these franchises are probably more or less dead if Konami keeps them to themselves, so it might be better than the alternative.

Nintendo | PlayStation | Multiplat

Lot of crybabies here, want to play a game? Then buy the platform, cannot stand the sense of self-entitlement.

It would be like Marvel selling their Spider-Man ip to Sony. Licensing an ip is very different than stratght selling it.

That would be good news if it were to happen. Although, I'd prefer a SOTN style Castlevania game to a LoS style one.

Signature goes here!

I would love it if this were to happen because I see those franchises are pretty much dead if left sticking with Konami seeing as how they're just focused on pachinko machines and what not since that's what's making them most of their money lol

Some people are complaining about exclusives and saying other big companies will try to do the same etc.., I say good. Again if this is true, it would look as though Sony's trying to buy up big franchises that seems Konami isn't really interested in making games of anymore. Would you rather Konami not make any of these games (for a long time) or would you like Sony to start making these games? If Nintendo or MS wants to buy franchises that Devs/Publishers aren't interested in making anytime soon then go for it! But dont give some lame example like what if Nintendo bought GTA....like Rockstar is still going to make a GTA game (also Nintendo can't afford GTA lol). Someone buy Dino Crisis and Onimusha please!! Cause Capcom aint doing a thing with them!
