Forums - Sony Discussion - Report: Sony looking to acquire Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Silent Hill IP's from Konami, Kojima involvement planned

https://jackofallcontrollers.com/2020/03/12/sources-report-sony-has-2-silent-hill-titles-in-development-silent-hill-reboot-at-japan-studio-and-silent-hills-at-kojima-productions/

Update: An apparent employee from Konami back in January on 4Chan (stick with me here folks, I’ll explain later why this is being reported on) says that Sony wants to buy Silent Hill, Castlevania, and Metal Gear from Konami and have Hideo Kojima involved in both Metal Gear and Silent Hill.

Castlevania will apparently receive a full on reboot at Japan Studio in the style of BloodBorne and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Just to tell you how much Sony cares unlike Konami, the Castlevania Requiem: Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood PS4 ports were done by Sony Interactive Entertainment’s own studios. That should tell you that they are passionate enough to try and get the IP.

Now, why are we reporting on a 4Chan post? Since this information us lining up with information heard from both Rely on Horror and later verified on our end from our own sources, this news dump seems to be actually valid. We anticipate hearing word on this in a post-PS5 reveal world. We are not obviously saying this is going to happen, but it seems like that they are actually trying to give these IPs another chance at prospering.

Sony Interactive Entertainment is working on a pair of Silent Hill titles, according to Rely on Horror.

Konami and Sony Interactive Entertainment are working together on these projects, with the development process looking like this:

  • Silent Hill reboot by Japan Studio’s Project Siren, the developers behind Siren and Gravity Rush
  • Silent Hills by Kojima Productions, the original developers of the canceled PS4 exclusive.

The report states that Silent Hill has been in development for around a year now and that Keiichiro Toyama and Akira Yamaoka will return to the project.

As for Silent Hills, the Hideo Kojima directed horror title staring Norman Reedus has apparently resumed talks between both Konami and the PlayStation giant and they are looking to be all ready to go.

Jack of All Controllers’ own sources close to Sony has also confirmed to us that Konami is actually open to making Silent Hills restart development, so it’s likely to happen, both games will end up being exclusive to PS5 though. Details are just as scarce as Rely on Horror’s, so we aren’t really able to add more details besides yes, to our knowledge as well, these games are happening.

Sony’s insane history with Konami has made this potentially possible. Despite the Internet essentially hating the Japanese publisher, they seem to be trying to patch things up. With Kojima-san working on a horror title, it’s possible that everything could be revived. Norman Reedus and Kojima-san recently said they are working on more projects. Konami still owns the IP, but Sony is fully funding and publishing the pair.

Sounds like an April Fools prank ahead of time, due to Coronavirus maybe (?)
Either way I hope its true cause it sounds like a dream come true, the Playstation is the console I'd want to play this titles on and Sony can have a competent studio handle them - since Konami is clearly not interested. Sad to see Suikoden didnt make the list. Thats THE Konami property I want back.

Buying out exclusives leaves a bad taste in peoples mouths..
If this is the case than Sony should just buy Komani, atleast than it leaves a valid reason to make the games exclusive.
Imagine if MS brought the Witcher IP? or Nintendo brought the GTA IP just to lock them away from others to buy.. anti-consumer at its finest.
Buy the damn companies or leave them be in my opinion.

If Suikoden made the list id be super excited. At least if Sony buys Metal Gear and Castlevania they can rep them through Playstation All Stars if that ever comes.

If it meant that we'd actually get good games in those series again, then I'm all for it.

If this actually happens I could see MS buying a big AAA studio and their IP in order to counter this move by Sony, maybe even more than 1, they won't allow a move this big by Sony to go unanswered. Bad for everybody if Sony opens up this pandoras box, because regardless of your platform of choice you're going to be locked out of playing new games from IP's that were formerly multiplat.

If Sony (or anyone) buying the IPs means we get good Silent Hill, Metal Gear and Castlevania games again then I'm all for it, even if they end up being exclusives. Exclusivity is better then pachinkos, nothing and Metal Gear Survive after all.

Kojima's trying to raise his connection level with Konami?

I wonder what SIE rewards him with?

Expanding the PS Network?

Better than where they are now... Would be hell of an addition to an already impressive library of games
