Dengeki shared some insight about PS4/NSW multiplatform games

Week 1 - Nintendo Switch: 42.8% / PlayStation 4: 57.2%
LTD - Nintendo Switch: 55.6% / PlayStation 4: 44.4%

Those are total sales of the 78 multiplat titles.

That is very interesting. Japanese third parties really are being quite foolish by not taking supporting the Switch more seriously, they could be making so much more off its userbase than they are now.

Many would rather go bankrupt than be professional and support nintendo. And those are quickly becoming the only 2 option for most japanese developers.

Yeah, same as SMT.

"dozen other Japanese games continue being PS exclusive", nowadays, they at least come to pc too

SMTV has chances to come to PS4, unless Nintendo also has a deal. There are still a few that don't.

Yakuza 7
Judgement
Persona 5, Dancing, Royal
Catherine FB
13 Sentinels
Dragons Crown

Nights of Azure
Idolmaster

FF Disisidia

GB Versus, ReLink

More importantly, most of these do not come out on other platforms like XBX or SW. If we were to account for PC, XBX would have 0 exclusives, and SW would have 0 third party exclusives.

That's very interesting. PS starts out stronger but fades quicker and the percentages basically reverse for LTD.

Bear in mind they are combining all releases. A better indicator would have been simply counting how many titles did better on each platform.

If SMTV come to ps4, then P5R must come to Switch in exchange, and Switch also have Night of Azure 2

Its gonna be really interesting to see what happens to the Japanese gaming industry once the PS5 launches, I get the feeling the split between Switch and PS5 multiplats are going to be in favor for the Switch, especially if the PS5 continues the downward trend Playstation has been facing in Japan.

This, also we'll need to wait untill ps5, those JP sony exclusives might jump then if ps5 sales are horrible in japan, which there is, in my opinion, a 50/50 chance of happening simply because japan is not into home consoles anymore.

I don't agree with that. PS4 is almost at 10 million in Japan despite being a home console. So home console won't disappear in Japan.

Plus Final Fantasy VII Remake will be soon out so PS4 will be at 115 million units sold in Japan in matter of days so that's all good.

ps4 mostly competed with the wii U (a harder fight than what most people think thanks to INSANE staying power of splatoon, ps4 only surpassed WiiU around when the NSW was announced officially), while the 3DS was absolutly CREAMING the vita despite japan being the vita's best reigion by far. so basically PS4 was alone in its target market, similarly with the 3ds.

then the switch came along and threw a wrench in the ps4's long- term selling power in japan.

ps4 is mostly still coasting along its pre-2018 install base.

the PS5's the first playstation since the first where its future isn't guarenteed in japan, and that might be enough for japanese devs to shy away from developing up to ps5 levels of power, its a similar situation to when the ds and psp came along and console gaming never recoverd its previous status casue the psp/ds was "powerful enough" for most devs, exept that now the switch has enough juice to run ANY type of game as long as you restrain and optimize.

Don't worry, Final Fantasy VII and VIII Remake will save Home Console in Japan.

Can’t think about FFVIII until we get part 2 of VII, which I’m not sure when that will come out. :/

I am curious to see if FFVII part 1 will move a significant amount of PS4s at this point without a permanent price cut on the PS4...and if so, how much?

if games like MHW, KH3, or DQXI on PS4 could not stop the onslaught of the Switch in Japan, what makes FFVII part 1 the game to change the landscape in Japan for Sony, despite being a highly anticipated remake? Hell, Animal Crossing just went bonkers on the COMG charts, surpassing FFVII part 1, and COMG has not been much of an accurate indicator for 1st party Switch games.

You worry too much my friend.

Let Final Fantasy VII do it's magic.

What’s your prediction then, if you’re serious about it? Will it allow the PS4 to surpass the Switch in sales for a few weeks, let alone one?

Oh man... sales won't be high, sales will be on fire !

I'm talking about a whole new world here !

50 million PS4 sold in Japan only at the end of April.

And 198 million Final Fantasy VII copies sold worldwide : Best Selling Game Ever.

Meanwhile in reality:

Nearly all publishers are making great money, some like Capcom and KT are making more money that they ever have lol

Doesn't work like that. They are different teams and deals.

This is not true at all. PS4 had to compete with WiiU and 3DS. 3DS was far stronger than the SW and had far more exclusives (MH,DQ,YW) which the SW does not.

PS4's sales cycle is pretty much in line with PS3's. PS5 will get more Japanese support than the SW, just like how PS4 got more Japanese support than the SW, because Playstation is the dominant platform for global software sales.
