MS: consoles aren't going anywhere for a decade+ minimum, streaming is merely a convenience and will always be inferior to local hardware MS: hey here's this fucking beast of a console, enjoy |
Of course MS has the Series X and it's a beastly console. I'm just saying that MS doesn't care if it will sell more boxes than Sony because they're already looking past next gen, where they see a future without the need for consoles/gaming pc's, just like we don't need Blu-ray or DVD players anymore. A future where MS becomes the Netflix of gaming with Xcloud and GP and you play their games whenever, and on whatever you want. For them, this gen will all be about winning subscribers, not selling Series X boxes.
They're even planning on selling the Series X through a subscription model (obviously bundled with GP) like we're seeing with mobiles. We will see, but I'm expecting it to be the most expensive console in history with a $699 price tag. I know that sounds insane but so did $1200 phones a couple of years ago. My theory is that they aren't sure how people will react to it and that's why they are saying all MS exclusives will be cross-gen for the coming years and on GP from day one. Because even if the Series X bombs, it will still be a win for them if they can build GP subscribers in the mean time. They're putting all their eggs in the Xcloud/GP basket and I'm just here checking to see if that's really something gamers want.
