I don't mind the odd bit of fortnite but saying that I've never spent a single penny on it. Call of duty otoh is imo totally overrated. The same game regurgitated annually to huge sales  >:(

And I still don't get why so many people are buying that generic garbage.

Metroid Prime has actual soul and depth, while COD is just the same boring and brown slop again and again.

Peer pressure, to play the same generic shit their mates are playing year after year I guess. Also, I totally agree with you.

I’m not really looking to have a debate about the merits of CoD, believe me, and I haven’t played it after 2 either, but I do want to say that it’s not just about that.

It’s about having ‘mindless’ fun. Call of Duty offers this, a complicated game like Metroid doesn’t. That’s a different kind of fun. With CoD you can just shoot at stuff for half an hour and see a bunch of explosions, and think nothing of it. And that’s in the end what most people want.

I wonder how many "backhanders" take place? :0

Probably a lot more than you think.

It's thanks to frauds like IGN that superior franchises like Metroid Prime or Pikmin haven't ever joined the 10m Club.

I thought IGN gave good review scores to Metroid Prime and Pikmin though? Unless i'm missing the bigger picture.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Mario Maker's been a relative disappointment. This time last year, I figured it was an easy 10 million seller.

I thought so too at 1 time but then it's legs have been somewhat disappointing, when relatively compared to the other Nintendo "evergreens".

The correct answer is of course mario party with super mario party sitting on 9.12m. It may even get there in this quarter. Luigi's mansion will probably join it in a years time.

I categorised Mario party similarly to Splatoon in the OP. I figured they would both get there easily, so omitted them both.

Perhaps I shouldn't comment too much about COD, as indeed I haven't played it for a while and you are right. I don't want to drag this too far off topic.

Okay, didn't realise. Anyway aside from Luigi's mansion i don't see any of nintendo'ss current IP  getting to 10 million. The most likely candidate would be Donkey kong, DKC on Snes was a 9 million seller and Returns did 6.5m on Wii so there is potential but it would have to be a 10/10 in quality with great multiplayer and release in the next year or two before switch momentum declines. Other than that well If there was a Diddy Kong racing sequel with the production values of Mario kart and with Banjo as a guest racer like the original then it would have the mass market appeal to achieve 10 million.

Personally I would agree Luigi's mansion has the best shot and will likely be the next franchise to hit 10m sold. I put a few wild cards on the list too. Some I feel may at some stage cross 10m. Also, Donkey Kong will be a tough 1 to predict. I thought I was right, I think official numbers for the SNES version of country was over 9m but that was a long time ago. However, with a lot of Nintendo's franchises breaking franchise records on Switch, if announced it would definitely be in with a shot. Although all or most of your stipulations would have to align for it to be a reality. If a diddy kong racing sequel exists I agree it would have a shot but maybe a long shot.

And IGN seems to worship COD no questions asked.

I can’t believe I am going to do this, but...here’s a defence of COD, at least relative to Metroid.

I prefer Metroid and own no COD games, but let’s be honest: Metroid content is pretty niche while COD picks the very simple and popular subject of warfare.  COD Also has standard, consistent multiplayer and straightforward gameplay while Metroid is usually solo and includes a lot of brain teasers and unusual gameplay like the morph ball.  Metroid’s assets as a hardcore gamer game are holding it back as a mainstream game.

and guess what?  I kind of like it that way.  Maybe with the right gameplay overhaul Metroid could pass 10 million, but I’d argue Nintendo should leave the series somewhat niche rather than totally revamping for 3-5 million more sales.

I voted Paper Mario.... because of wishfull thinking.

I want to see a ambious paper mario, thats old school turn based rpg, done right again by Nintendo.
That then also goes on to sell that much.
