Age of Empires II. 'Cause it was my childhood and it's genuinely a great game.

Even if the game I enjoyed the most from the 90s is Heroes of Might and Magic 3 I give the game of the decade to the first Diablo.
It made the action RPG a relevant genre, it introduced us to battle.net making online play a lot easier for many people and it is one of my absolute favorite games.

Starcraft.

Everyone who says something different is wrong.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Super Mario 64

It's like "why even bother to ask?"

"Quagmire, are you the type of guy who takes 'no' for an answer ?"
"My lawyer doesn't allow me to answer that question"

Super Metroid, followed very closely by Ocarina of Time and FFVII.

Argh, I forgot to mention it in my previous post!! Super Metroid is what perfected the formula for the Metroid games!!

I'll throw in a little game I played a couple of years ago.

Tales of Phantasia

The one that started my favorite RPG series. And that start is easily my second favorite of them, the amount of ideas and concepts that it established for all future games is incredible, from the very well well fleshed out relationships and dynamics between party members that would become the trademark of this series, the comedy it would develop, the tone and settings of their worlds, its ideas in storytelling. It has everything I love from Tales of and is executed to damn near perfection in its first attempt.

Also kind of offends me a bit that modern games that try to tribute 16-bit JRPGs can't even have basic, well done interactions, make the party feel more alive, when Phantasia was flexing over here making it look easy back then.

And for a SNES game is incredibly ambitious, with its professional VA for the voice clips, the music and visual quality and that legendary opening.

The mad lads over here putting a full lyrics opening on a SNES game. Followed by that glorious atmospheric af opener to the game.

And as someone that played Symphonia first, seeing the world building that game payed tribute to and several arrangements that originated from Phantasia, elevates both games for me to an entire new level of legendary.

Is one of the most positive RPG experiences for me and my game of the decade.

(And that makes for me 2 Tales of and 2 Marios for games of the 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 2010s)

Let's have a champion time!

Some other honourable mentions for me: Age of Empires 1 & 2, Doom, Donkey Kong Country 1 & 3, F-Zero X, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, Spyro trilogy, Crash trilogy, Super Mario RPG, Crash Team Racing. Such a magical era of gaming. Truly the medium's golden age as far as I'm concerned.

Ocarina of Time.
