I'm glad I don't live in a conjested area. That being said, the LORD can take me whenever HE wills to do so.

Sure cause some imaginary, invisible man in the sky as George Carlin would call it, has nothing better to do than pick humans off this insignificant planet lost in the periphery of an ordinary galaxy among trillions of other galaxies. Not only that but he/she/it picks some people and not others because ... ???

Anyway, this corona virus is disappointing and the media is blowing it totally out of proportion. There's been what? 80 casualties so far? Out of about 1.4 BILLION Chinese people. Literally anything else that one way or another could kill humans is more lethal than this puny virus. The common flu kills way more humans than this joke of a virus does.

For those wondering why I'm disappointed well it's because I wish to see mankind come to an end and when I hear about a new virus like this one in the news my hopes go up, especially because of the way the media blows it all out of proportion. So yeah I can only end up disappointed.

CANDY kills more than this virus if you take into account everybody choking on candy in the world.

The common Flu also infects a good billion people each year, much, much more than any other disease. And how many percent does it kills from that billion?

Also, keep in mind the first detected cases of the disease are not even a month old. As a result, both the death toll and the confirmed cases of infection are rising fast. Right now already, there are 106 dead, 25 more than yesterday, all while the confirmed cases almost doubled to 4652 in just one day.

Plus, there may very well have been more cases, but misdiagnosed as a heavy pneumonia instead (just like what the new coronavirus was originally considered to be). In other words, those 106 are the minimum and the real death toll might be quite a bit higher than "only" 106.

To be fair, on the opposite end there are probably thousands more who have been infected but displayed only mild symptoms and are flying under the radar. Whether their viral load was high enough to transmit to others - same with those in the incubation stage - remains to seen.

You're right, though, that if this new Coronavirus infected 1 billion people like the common flu, we'd probably be seeing 20 - 50 million people dead at the end of the year. That's almost World War or Spanish Flu levels of bad. China is totally justified in their containment procedures so far, in my opinion.

Incubation period being a few weeks is a problem. Means people will think they are fine and infect others who also think they are fine and infect others, etc.

By the way, I've wanted to say this for a few months now, but this situation makes it more relevant.
People who sneeze/cough in public without covering their mouths (and I see them all the time) should be forced to go back to kindergarden and learn basic human etiquette.

Same with people that clear their throats and then spit it onto the ground.
Its disgusting and promotes the spread of virus's and other sicknesses.

I actually think its admirable that in asian society when they get sick, they buy a face mask, so as to not infect others.
Same if theres a serious outbreak, they also buy masks to limit themselves getting sick and futher spreading such.

it's a lot more likely the mild to asymptomatic cases of the diseases were missed/ not diagnosed. Last I heard "only" about 25% of the patients display serious symptoms.

Especially early on, when it wasn't known yet that there is a new disease and before the hospitals and doctors had been briefed on the new Coronavirus, many physicians certainly diagnosed just a pneumonia.

Also, how many are potentially sitting at home, hoping to get better by themselves instead of visiting a doctor for whatever reason? These could be hundreds, if not thousands by now.

That is the case for most infectious diseases, though. The number of people with mild symptoms or assymptomatic carriers overwhelm those with symptoms multiple times. For instance, unreported dengue fever cases are estimated to be up to 99% of the total.

It's more or less the same concept as the "ciffre noir" of criminology and the 80 - 20 rule of economic statistics.

Aha you most definitely have a point there

But in my defense I don't do parties because I don't do humans or anything that is social in nature. Why would I coop myself up in a closed space full of smoking people speaking too loud because of a background music that is itself too loud and drinking alcohol while casually talking about anything and pretending to care what the other people there think or say?
