Thanks for this mZuzek, the effort you  put into this event is always highly appreaciated.

Flawless top 2

Chrono Trigger in the top 5 where it should be

Good positions for Xenoblade, Nier Automata DQ8 higher than I thought it would be

Always preferred FFVI over FFVII.

Suikoden II too low.

This list actually feels less Nintendo oriented than the last few ones.

Right? By my count, 58 titles in the top 100 were not published by Nintendo. That's more than any year since 2011. This was one of the biggest and most diverse in taste Greatest Games threads ever for VG Chartz.

I'm pretty sure that I'm singularly responsible for like 30 or 35 games making the 1,130 list anyway. My tastes are nothing if not unique. Also, my top 50 included ONE Nintendo game (Super Metroid) and I thought Death Stranding was the best new game released this year, so more evidence that I'm totally in line with prevailing VGC opinion!! Which itself is totally in line with average gamer opinion, as evidenced by the fact that I don't think anyone voted for Fortnite, which is only like the first or second most-played video game in history.

In all seriousness, people's preferences for Nintendo games this year and in 2011 and such seem to coincide with time frames in which Nintendo's platforms were dominant in terms of sales. In other words, prolly lots of go-along, fair-weather fans here, just saying.

Also, sorry for being a bitch before, raccoon. You know I was kidding! The first page looks like it took more work than I can even fathom. Congrats on a job well done!

That said, you took three weeks and there's no excuse for that, so consider yourself crucified.

If I recall correctly your list had 26 games on it that were new to the spreadsheet... that means it was a real pain to compile, looking up all the games and their release years and whatnot! Still, there was someone else who had an even higher amount of new games, but I can't remember who exactly.

massive respect and thanks for all the hard work!!!

absolutely stoked at celeste appearing so high, my personal #2 - almost gave it first over BotW. also thoroughly impressed with FE: three houses, not only did it place highly, but it won GOTY!

my main disappointment is that astral chain and bayonetta are so damn low. cmon guys, show platinum some love :(

I ranked Celeste as my 6th fave myself. I really, really love that game too! Like, everything about it. Seriously. I'm pretty sure it'll always be somewhere in my top 10, so as long as I'm here, I should be able to help its rank out some.

However, I won't be able to help out Astral Chain and Bayonetta as much, sorries! I mean they're both fine really, but just not like top 100 material for me, personally. I show Platinum my love by ranking NieR: Automata, which I view as defs their best game so far, in my top 50.

You're welcome on both counts.

Note to myself: Make next year's list have at least 5 Atelier games in the top 10.

You've gotta play Butterfly Soup. That is all.

Wait, what? How does Nintendo having fewer games in the top 100 when they're most successful commercially indicate that there are lots of fair-weather fans here? If that were true, you'd expect the exact opposite. The only way that what you're saying makes sense is if you're accusing Sony fans of only voting for Nintendo games when Nintendo isn't doing well, and taking Nintendo games off their lists out of spite when Nintendo is the market leader.

Well, honestly....this was the first year I took part in this and I admit, this is the most DEFINITIVE and best list (overall) I think I have seen compiled on this site yet. Sure, I hate seeing zelda games in the top 5 all the time, every year but I even had 2 zelda games in my list somewhere so whatever. The internet LOVES Zelda, I get it, no point in complaining. I guess I can say the same about the internet's love for Final Fantasy, but to a slightly less extent.

Honestly, overall though, based on the games that have been mentioned throughout the entirety of it all, it has to be one of the finest lists I have yet seen and a huge, HUGE IMPROVEMENT over last year's. In comparison, this list feels like the REAL deal, so that alone speaks volumes and really....cannot complain about the selections. Very comprehensive and representative.

TOP highlights for me:

1] Scrolling through the top 20 I was actually getting paranoid that FFVII wasn't even going to make the list....at all. Then all of the sudden there it is at #5 (a jump of 15 from last year). All I can say is, the fact that this game made the top 5 alone almost makes me watery eyed. I wonder if the Switch version played to it a bit more. Almost double the votes from 2018....and then, shockingly, Chrono Trigger comes out of nowhere to also trump last year's position and beating out FFVII by one. That was funny.

2] ICO made a HUGE jump from like 190's to #130...THAT was nice to see. In fact, to be quite honest....I had more fun with the results within the #99-#800's range than I did the actual top 100 itself.

3] Did Streets of Rage and Streets of Rage 2 even make last year's list? I kept comparing side by side to some of the games and I couldn't find them for the life of me. Now, all the sudden BOTH these games crack the top 300 which was amazing to see as they were both on my lists.

4] A LOT of nice jumps for a LOT of stunning games that still deserve to be higher, like RE2 2019 and Silent Hill 2. The Last Guardian had a nice jump....turtles in time. Tekken 3. Just to name a few.

5] Of course, when FFVII gets a HUGE jump my favourite game of all time falls 10 spots from #13 to #26. Still high and overall, I'd still say this list beats out last year's if I had to choose. RE4, SotN and The Last of Us were placed much more deservingly. Super Mario Bros 3 was up there - nice! Ocarina of Time...too high, but hey, it's a good game hehe.

I thought I'd just highlight my personal top 10 and where they ended up on the list.

1] Shadow of the Colossus - #26

2] Final Fantasy VII - #5

3] Silent Hill 2 - #185 (not bad for just 3 votes - only SH game on the list I think)

4] Castlevania: Symphony of the Night #43 (HUUUUGE jump from the 200's in last year's list. HELL YEAH!)

5] Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night - #218 (solid for only 4 votes)

6] The Last of Us - #20

7] ICO - #130

8] Resident Evil 4 - #16

9] Resident Evil 2 (2019) - #148

10] The Last Guardian - #184

Man, I don't know how this mzuzek guy does it but jeeeezuz, it makes my mind warped just to think the amount of work that goes into doing something like this. ;) I hope you get paid enough hahaha. Seriously, a big THANK YOU for compiling one of the most kick ass best of gaming lists I've seen. It'd be only better if there were at least 200 voters.

Gets me thinking - I'd just LOVE to see something like this done on the most EPIC of scales....EVER. With like thousands of voters, and then we'd get closer to seeing something more comprehensive and telling. I just feel Zelda only shows up at the top when there are very few voters...when things broaden up, you begin to see some big changes happen. But enough of that, truly truly great work. I wish more people would applaud the individual for taking their sweet ass time to do this even. I've had a big kick checking out where my selections would end up on the list.

CHEERS!!!!

@mZuzek: I just saw that you did put down Attack of the Friday Monsters! as Guild02. While the Guild-games were released in these two waves, you still had to buy them separately and they were separate games.

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019

Predictions: Switch / Switch vs. XB1 in the US / Three Houses first quarter

So what other glorious bastard gave the Baten Kaitos games a high ranking with me? Whoever you are, we got Origins almost to the top 250, so the top 25% of the list! The only other game to rank higher with just two votes was Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

I'm the glorious bastard with Origins.

Great work as usual with all the data raccoon.

Hopefully Style Savvy Styling Star keeps being in the top 500 for years to come.
