Forums - Gaming Discussion - If all PlayStation/Xbox games were on PC day 1, would you still buy a console?

If console exclusives disappeared, would you still buy a console?

Yes, consoles still have benefits 85 65.89%

No, there'd be no point in having a console 44 34.11%

I would still buy a console. If a console has a launch price of $499, people are already complaining let alone build a gaming pc for $2000. Also, consoles are just a lot more hassle free. You plug it in and it just works and you never have to worry about upgrades and drivers messing things up.

No.

The poll options are garbage. Consoles will always have benefits for certain people, that's not the issue. The issue starts when they try to force them on the people who do not benefit from them. The only reason I ever had to buy cobsoles is lack of money and then being forced to it by lack of choice.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I am (like many I guess) kind of a pc noob, I never installed a graphics card and plenty of times when I bought games I had a hard time making them work on my pc. It also depends, some games like Minecraft/Counter Strike I prefer to play on PC.

Yes. I don't like gaming on pc.

Before I got a steam controller yes, now I have one and can actually navigate the OS with a gamepad maybe not.

Yeah - but that's because I game on PC or Nintendo - who also produces consoles.

Last Playstation for me was the PS2, since the PS3 I play those games on PC. There's just not enough exclusives of my taste on Playstation anymore these days to warrant buying such a console for me.

My job requires me to work on 3 PCs. Gaming on a console helps me feel like I'm not still working.

Thats one of my reasons too.

Same. I am pretty tech-savvy, but my work makes gaming on a PC feel a bit... fell sour, to be honest. I still play on my PC (mostly games I purchase via GoG) but my consoles get at least 95% of my gaming time, even if I am playing multiplats.

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Nope, I would put my Jolly Flag and pirate all in PC. And use the saved money to have a good HW.

Definitely.

A. Consoles are just more fun. The UI looks better and the control schemes are generally better (controllers are simply more fun to use than mouse/keyboard).

B. The games are cheaper. Not too long ago I strolled into Book-Off and bought a Dynasty Warriors game for ¥108. I'm pretty sure I've never seen anything that cheap on PC before. Sure, PC is typically cheaper for "new" games, but with the used market consoles are definitely cheaper.

C. They're easier to connect things to. Much easier to plug into my TV, they don't take up anywhere near as much space as PC and I don't have to disconnect them from my monitor, remove them from my desk, lug them over to the TV and then plug them in, they're just always plugged in by default. Thus they're also easier to use for Netflix etc. Plus the amount of hoops I had to jump through to get my DS4 to work on the PC version of Halo MCC...

D. They can be used for DVDs. My PC doesn't have a disc drive so I can't watch DVDs on it, my PS4 has one though!

E. I can multitask if I own both. Play a game simultaneously on console and PC, can't do that if I only have a PC.

A. PCs can be more fun. You have much more options to adapt the UI (and you don't have to pay for themes) and you have much more options for controls. You can use the control scheme best suited for the game/genre you want to play (f.e. mouse for point&click adventures + fps shooters + RTS, racing wheel + pedals for racing games, flight stick for flight sims + space sims, the gamepad of your choice for platformers...)

B. PC games are cheaper if you don't mind digital versions. I got over 100 PC games for free last year, over 70 of them from Epic Games with an average MetaScore above 80... I'm pretty sure I've never seen anything that cheap on consoles before.

C. Plugging a HDMI-cable into a TV + console is the same as plugging a HDMI-cable into a TV + PC or plugging a HDMI/DP-cable into a monitor + PC.

D. PCs can of course also be used for DVDs. Even if your PC doesn't have a disc drive, you can buy and connect an external drive for around $20: https://www.amazon.com/External-Burner-Writer-Transfer-Desktop/dp/B081PTF935

E. PCs are made for multitasking, f. e. you can play a game in a window and watch a movie simultaneously in another window (or fullscreen on two connected monitors). Play a game simultaneously on console and PC, you can't do that either if you only have a console.
