What does Lite GLOBAL Q3 shipments have to do with December NPD though?? 

Oh, this may be a little bit complicated.  Now, Dec is part of Q3.  And NPD covers the US, which is part of...the globe.

It's just hilarious that people can't get over that Nintendo had to do what every other console company has done, including themselves previously, either cut the price of the OG SKU or release a lower priced SKU to keep sales up YOY.  I know it goes against the narrative of the unstoppable Switch that will sell higher amounts until 2022 no matter what, but obviously Nintendo doesn't believe that nonsense either, so released the Lite.  Nintendo is being smart in keeping the demand for Switch up, which should make Nintendo fans happy, yet they take that simple, factual observation as some sort of insult.

A lot of those 3M probably would've bought a regular Switch for Pokemon anyway had the Lite not released. "Wonderful" is a big overstatement when the SKU that's $100 more expensive still makes up the bulk of sales.

Obviously Nintendo doesn't buy that narrative, otherwise they wouldn't release the cheaper SKU.  If they would have bought it regardless of price, Nintendo is stupid for releasing it, as they must make a killing with the manufacturing price reductions on the $299 SKU. Again, if those people would have bought the $299 SKU, anyway, that's still the SKU they would have bought for the full experience and features.

Are there still going to be people who wait for the $299 Switch to drop in price?  Of course.  But, the people who don't care about the "full experience," and want it at $199 are jumping in, now.  That was the point of the Lite. Not to become the #1 SKU for the Switch, but to get some of those $199 adopters started coming in to keep demand and numbers up.

I wouldn't be delusional and say that the PS4 would still be at 105M+ without cuts below $349.  Of course it wouldn't.  Same goes for the Switch.

If it was acting like a $199 price cut though, then the vast majority of sales would be of the $199 model.

Instead, the vast majority are still choosing the base model in spite of it costing $100 more. So it's not equivalent to a price cut.

This may prove difficult as well, but just because Nintendo shipped 3 million Lite units in Q3 does not mean they sold through the majority of them. In fact, anecdotally, most big box retailers had stacks of them sitting around after the holidays while the main unit had supply issues. It's ludicrous at best you're trying to push this narrative of the $199 gimped unit somehow being a savior for Nintendo during the holidays. Ignoring the fact that Switch was up 20-30% YOY prior to the Lite releasing. Also, this thread was intended for sell through data for Dec NPD, not 3 month global shipped data...though it's transparent why you're trying to fuse the two. 

And speaking of this "simple, factual observation", possibly people are taking issue with the fact it's not coming from a neutral source? I'm sure you're aware of this and are purposely ruffling feathers for whatever reason...

I'm amazed at how creative people can get to be able to downplay 2 million consoles sold in one month in one region.

Why give that alt more attention?

I think it's great to see so few people trolling in these Nintendo threads. Now your job is to make that the case in other threads as well.
Too many PS and XB owners have left the site due to toxicity.
