In console development, there is no such thing as "last minute update".

They will design console on certain cost and let some flexibility exist to have some leeway and alternative on sales tactic. Like with PS4 when they canceled PS4 camera to be included with PS4 and make PS4 more cheaper then Xbox One in 2013.

Ironically, The XBox One was considerably cheaper than the PS4 at launch. People seem to be puzzled by the fact that Kinect2 probably was a $250 "Add-on" at launch (it is and was expensive hardware), and considered the X1 to be more expensive. The $100 price difference not even marginally made up for the Kinect2.

Sales prices of consoles cannot really be reasoned as we do not know how recouping r&d and the other 10'019 pre-launch things are factured into the calculation over what time frame/sales numbers are accounted for. Ideally in the end, sales of hardware should not have been a significant burden on software sales. Each company's idea about that may vary largely, but the common idea "See that games pay for the hardware" is never correct.

Agree with you probably not the hardware , but there is possibility on price. Price tend to be flexible. That never happened.

..." IGN reports that came at the expense of the PlayStation Eye camera, which has been yanked from the PS4 package. Citing "multiple sources," the report says Sony dropped plans to include the camera with the PS4 and trim $100 off the price.

During E3, Sony announced the PS4 would launch at $399, while MIcrosoft unveiled its Xbox One -- which includes the Kinect motion and voice sensor -- for $499."...

Actually you are incorrect on the bold part, Microsoft just make Windows free for the user. The same thing can happen on hardware but what it means free is Sony can have a flexible price. Many revenue on Sony are came from games which is fact. Hardware alone did not make any revenue.

@HollyGamer

Why would Sony sell a PS4 bundled with Cam for 500 (400+100) when the camera was 59.- when it was made available in 2013?

I don't know for sure , but the info was based on a couple of insider that close to Sony.

@HollyGamer

There is only the original July 2013 IGN article all other sources refering to. Which doesn't provide any clue to where they got the information from nor is it conclusive. Nothing else.

Then there is that...

On February 21, 2013, a day after thePlayStation 4 was announced,[2][3] a camera was revealed to be in development for the PlayStation 4, nicknamed the "PlayStation 4 Eye" after its predecessor, the PlayStation Eye.[4] It was also featured in the trailer that teased the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation camera was released alongside the PlayStation 4.

In March 2014, Sony announced that over 900,000 PlayStation Cameras were sold alongside the PlayStation 4 console, leading to shortages of stock supply.

OC3D have a piece on the next RDNA 2 GPU's, tiny bit in there reckons PS5 will be going past 2GHz, crazy people. Major improvements for PC and hopefully keeps Nvidia in check.

My memory could be incorrect, but the way I remember it, was that I was watching a full vid or clip back then, of someone from PS saying or suggesting at some point that a camera would be included in the box with the console. I don't remember if it was from a big event or just a small interview, but the way I remember it was seeing it from a video and not reading about it.

I also remember it seemed to get swept under the rug pretty quickly. So it wouldn't be a surprise that first hand articles about it are scarce.
