Forums - Gaming Discussion - Your GOTY for each year this decade 2010-2019 list em

Just going off memory here, so I might forget a game or two:
2010: Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
2011: Dark Souls
2012: Journey
2013: The Last of Us
2014: Dark Souls II / The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (Technically a 2004 release, but the PC version of Trails was released in 2014)
2015: Bloodborne
2016: Dark Souls III
2017: Horizon Zero Dawn

Can't really say for the last two years yet. Haven't played more than one or two games from each.

Around the Network

2010 - Donkey Kong Country Returns
2011 - Batman: Arkham City (although Skyrim is a close second)
2012 - Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask
2013 - A Link Between Worlds (the runners up were Fire Emblem: Awakening and Rayman: Legends)
2014 - DKC: Tropical Freeze
2015 - Majora's Mask 3D (I never played this as a child, but it was such a fantastic game that it easily took the top spot that year)
2016 - Persona 5 (it might be cheating a bit to put this here, but my 2016 was really barren and I loved this game)
2017 - Breath of the Wild (even though so many good games came out like Mario Odyssey, Samus Returns, and Nier Automata)
2018 - Hollow Knight (that's the year it came out for Switch, narrowly beating SSB: Ultimate and Celeste)
2019 - Ring Fit Adventure (I haven't played most of the games that came out this year as I'm still trying to work through my backlog, but this one caught my eye and it was great how Nintendo managed to make a fitness game that was actual fun instead of mindless tedium or repetitive minigames)

Game of the Decade: SUPAH MARIO BROTHERS 2!
(actually Breath of the Wild)

2010: Bioshock 2

2011: Infamous 2

2012: Sleeping Dogs

2013: FFXIV (Realm Reborn)

2014: Infamous Second Son

2015: Disgaea 5

2016: Persona 5

2017: Nioh

2018: Monster Hunter World

2019: Kingdom Hearts III

Best game according to my top 50 list is Nioh.

I still have so many games to play so I’m sure this will change for a few years.

2010 - Super Mario Galaxy 2
Like almost every 3D Mario game, this one overflows with creativity, ingenuity, and pure platforming joy

2011 - Portal 2
One of the funniest, most clever puzzle games of all time with a voice cast for the ages

2012 - Xenoblade Chronicles
My top Wii game, and a magnificent RPG with addictive exploration, memorable moments, and tons of content

2013 - A Link Between Worlds
I was initially anxious about the recycled overworld but this top-down Zelda proved to be a masterclass in its own right

2014 - Mario Kart 8
Even before it’s huge helping of DLC, Mario Kart 8 was probably the best racer ever made, with stellar music, excellent tracks, and unusual spatial freedom

2015 - Rocket League
You wouldn’t think something that could be distilled to a single idea—soccer with cars—would be so spectacular, but this game sings thanks to tight steering controls, local multiplayer options, and habit-forming gameplay

2016 - The Last Guardian
A down year, 2016 still gave us a third great game from one of the few true auteurs in the industry

2017 - Breath of the Wild
My game of the decade, Breath of the Wild combines emergent gameplay, improvisational combat, and the tenets of the Zelda franchise to form the greatest open world game of all time

2018 - Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Arguably the best game from one of the most consistently great series, Ultimate is a victorious celebration of 40 years of gaming

2019 - Wargroove
An indie game that will sneak up on you, Wargroove is beautiful-looking turn-based tactics game with loads of features, modes, and replay value that could go head-to-head with most big studio releases

Something like this?

2010 - Super Mario Galaxy 2
2011 - Portal 2
2012 - Xenoblade Chronicles
2013 - The Last of Us (even though first played it lateron)
2014 - Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
2015 - The Witcher 3
2016 - Final Fantasy XV
2017 - Persona 5
2018 - Dragon Quest XI
2019 - Kingdom Hearts 3

2010 - Mass Effect 2 (very honorable mentions to Alan Wake and Red Dead Redemption….tough year)
2011 - Crysis 2 (certainly far from the best game that year, but as it happens, I made quite a few life long friends on the multiplayer, so it wins by default)
2012 - Dragon's Dogma (again, probably not the best I played that year, but such a genuine surprise hit that it made a lasting impression)
2013 - Metro: Last Light (2013 was kinda weak imo, but Last Light was a standout)
2014 - Divinity: Original Sin (I didn't actually play this that year, so at the time, I would have given it to DA:I, but Divinity was definitely a superior game)
2015 - The Witcher 3 (still, arguably, the best game I've ever played)
2016 - Overwatch (I know it wasn't, but this kinda feels like the only game I played that year)
2017 - Divinity: Original Sin 2 (the only other game I've played this gen that I loved as much as Witcher 3)
2018 - Monster Hunter: World (my first ever MH game, and I loved every minute of it...definitely addicting)
2019 - Sekiro (if you only ever play one FromSoft game, this is the one you should play)

Have you played the original Divinity series? Devine Devinity? They are pretty good.

No, Original Sin was my first Larian game. Might check out some of the older games at some point though. They've definitely become one of my favorite developers.

Some years like 2013 and 2017 are full of great games, while some other years (2016 in particular) barely have anything.

I don't think you've played enough 2016 games...

I have played two, Sun and Moon and Fire Emblem Fates. Both were equally mediocre. There might be a few games that I haven't played that are slightly better than these two, but nothing from that year looks particularly interesting to me.
