If it didnt sell 15 million this year, it sure as hell isn't selling that much next year.

I just really want PS4 to outsell Gameboy before January 2021.

Why January 2021?

It will outsell Gameboy, just not that soon.

Just realized; Switch now ahead of PS4 + Xbone combined YTD.

Switch: 19.2m

PS4 + Xbone: 18.7m

Can Switch outsell PS4+XB0+PS5+XSX next year though?

Probably yes. What XSX and PS5 win is mostly what PS4 and XBO lost over the course of the year, so with flat sales Switch should win.

Unless sales completely tank the PS4 will outsell the Game Boy before Sony stops producing them. Sony consoles have always had strong legs even when the next generation console launches.

The ps and ps2 had amazing legs. The psp, ps3 and vita sold very little during their twilight years.

Can someone tell me why on the Platform totals page Vita is at 16.21 million and on main page it's at 15.9 million?

How far is it from reaching 16 again? 15.9 just looks so wrong..

It was adjusted down as new information became available.

Sadly, it will likely remain at 15.9 million forever, as shipments have ceased and sales have dropped to basically nothing.

From 81 millions with PSP to 15.9 millions with Vita... Man what a shame

Yeah, combination of the rise of mobile gaming and the loss of Monster Hunter I reckon.

And Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, God of War, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, etc.

But yeah PSP was THE portable multimedia device of the mid-00s, a single device that let you play games, watch movies, listen to music and surf the web was a huge deal in a pre-smartphone era.

I think PS4 can still sell 15 millions in 2020, there will be FFVII Remake, Cyberpunk 2077, TLOU 2 and Ghost of Tsushima to give huge boots to sales, and I think they will announce permanent price cuts for PS4 and PS4 Pro in February when PS5 is revealed.

It's not doing it this year but you expect it to do it next year when the next console will be shown and will repulse a lot of potential buyers, also even more knowing it is probably going to be retro compatible. They wont be able to be aggressive during the last quarter cause it will be all about PS5 and this is where like half the units are made doe a year. Also, games this late in a gen dont boost much. It will probably have a big drop next year and it will be also I intentional on Sony's part.

What if they lower the price to $199 in February, before FFVII, TLOU 2 and Ghost come out?

We don't know Sony's plan and neither we know their 2020 sales forecast.

We know they arent planning a price cut in February based on them slashing their FY projections 2 quarters in a row.

But even so, price cuts this late in the game dont cause growth, they just help soften the decline. Take a look at holiday sales for the last few years

2016-6.2 million (lowest price-$249 w/game)

2017-5.9 million (lowest price-$199)

2018-5.6 million (lowest price-$199 w/game)

2019-~4 million (lowest price-$199 w/3 games)

2016-2018 are official numbers from Sony while 2019 is estimates based on this sites numbers.

As you can see sales have dropped for each of the last 4 holidays despite the deals getting better each year, this is diminishing returns so a price cut to $199 is not guaranteed to cause an uptick in sales outside of the first few weeks since it has been at that price on a few occasions.

Then I just hope PS4 reaches 120 millions, even if it's October 2021, that's important milestone imo.

That is only another 14.5 million from now until it is discontinued, it will do that easily.
