Forums - Website Topics - VGChartz's Official Game of the Year 2019 Awards - Vote Here!

That time of year again! This will be our 13th annual Game of the Year Awards. Here's a list of our previous Overall Game of the Year winners:

2018: God of War
2017: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
2016: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
2015: Rocket League
2014: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
2013: Super Mario 3D World
2012: Journey
2011: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
2010: Mass Effect 2
2009: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
2008: LittleBigPlanet
2007: BioShock

This year we'll once again be using a mix of staff and community voting to determine the site's winners in each and every category (50% weighting for each group).

In order to take part and vote all you need is a Google account (sorry, but it's the easiest way for us to do it!).

Here's the voting form - LINK

FAQ stuff:

Q - When does voting close?
A - Voting closes a week from today.

Q - Can I change my vote/edit my voting form after submitting it?
A - Yes, you can edit your voting form up until we close voting next week.

Q - Do I have to select a winner for every award?
A - Nope. Select your winner for as many or as few categories as you wish.

Q - Why is game xxxxx up for one of its genres and not the other?
A - We have a long-standing, firm rule that each game is only eligible for one genre award. We've chosen what we think is the most appropriate one for each game. If you can make a convincing case it's listed for the wrong genre then we can be persuaded to move it, but no game will ever be listed for more than one genre award.

Q - You forgot game xxxxxx, you idiots.
A - If a game you wish to vote for is missing then post in this thread and I'll add it. The sooner you let me know the better, obviously.

Q - Where's Diablo IV/Super Mario 202X/Metroid Prime 4/BioShock 202X?
A - For the Most Anticipated of 2020 Award, only games that are likely to release in 2020 have been included. That is why the likes of Elden Ring, Diablo IV, BioShock 202X, Metroid Prime 4, and more aren't on the list. If you think a major game is missing from this list and is actually likely to release next year (i.e. it has a firm release window) then let me know and I'll add it.

Q - When and how will the winners be announced?
A - Winners will be announced in a series of articles that we'll start publishing at the end of the year.

Any questions or problems not dealt with in the FAQ, please post.

Also post your game addition requests in this thread as well (we always miss some, no matter how hard we try to list every relevant release).

I was going to vote until I realized I have not played a single current game this year. At most I've played re-releases or ports. I'm not sure if that's good or bad...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Can't vote for Ring Fit Adventure in the categories Best Surprise and Game of the Year. Can't vote for Breath of the Wild 2 in Most Anticipated Game of 2020.

EDIT: Can't vote for Bloodstained in Most Disappointing, but it's a nice touch that Death Stranding is inserted as the default choice.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

Added x2, just for you :)

Source for BotW 2 releasing next year?

There is no default, the options are shuffled for each voter.

Hm, I understand that this is probably the easiest way to do it, but game selection is quite limited.

Perhaps there's also Trials of Mana as a Most Anticipated Game, coming April 2020.
I also miss Life is Strange 2 in a category for Best Game 2019 (maybe Adventure?). But I can understand if you don't put it in.
