Switch Lite Animal Crossing Edition would sell a fair amount. The series is popular, but isn't on the level of Pokemon, Mario or Zelda.

To be fair, how many franchises are on the level of Mario and Pokemon? Clearly it's not going to sell on the level of a mainline Pokemon or 2D Mario and that's no shame.

But I do feel you are underestimating the impact of a brand new Animal Crossing - It's a series with three entries surpassing 10M in sales, nothing neither 3D Mario nor Zelda has managed. It's a franchise with the same sales potential as both 3D Mario or Zelda has. I'm not sure saying it would sell a fair amount is doing it justice :P

It's a major game and will push hardware.

Well actually it could manage to outsell Sword/Shield but it's because GF release like a game a year so it obviously affect the legs of their games compare to that AC always have incredible legs and it will clearly be at peak with the gain of popularity of the franchise and the fact it's on the Switch where every franchise is breaking record it seems. I don't think even Nintendo had this scenario in mind as the best possible thing to happen to the Switch yet they are having their most healthy golden era imo, which is securing a good image going into the next console compare to just gimmick that people get tired of and broke their image to childish/family company.

You are right about that. It is a series I've never paid attention to as it isn't for me. I hope fans of the series love the game. I know it will push hardware, I'm just saying with the popularity of it and the time of year the bump won't be huge at launch (but you never know I could be wrong). I see the game being a slow burner with strong legs.

Oh honey i think you will be surprised about the amount of people waiting for this. Chrissy Teigen alone on Twitter will make publicity for the casual gamers lol. It's a crazy loved and popular franchise and i'm certain it will push a lot of consoles. I've never played it but will buy the switch game cause why not.

Another ace in the sleeve is Animal Crossing releasing at the very end of the fiscal year which should provide a significant hardware boost to launch date. I think we might see another Lite SKU releasing.

This isn't exactly true as the only first party series that are more popular than AC currently are Smash, Pokemon and MK and AC outsells them in Japan as its a 5m seller over there, AC only has 4 mainline installments and 2 are already 10m sellers Zelda never had a 10m seller until BOTW which is a game that speaks for itself while Mario only Galaxy, Odyssey and 64 hit that mark for the 3D games which like BOTW speak for themselves with the 2D games obviously having a long rooted history in gaming.

Fact of the Day: Animal Crossing: New Leaf has sold more than any Pokemon, Monster Hunter or Dragon Quest game on the 3DS in Japan.

New Horizons will end up as the best-selling Switch game in Japan and will have no problem topping 15 million worldwide.

Sure it is, Animal Crossing on DS & 3DS both sold ~12 million, significantly more than any Zelda game excluding BotW.

I'll admit I didn't realize any of them sold that well. A series I haven't paid attention to and I've never been into handheld gaming. I was thinking it was a series that sold more like half of that. I do have a good friend of mine who is waiting to purchase a Switch until AC releases.

Yeah if you live in America or Europe it might not seem as big as other franchises since close to 50% of sales come from Japan.

It's big in the west but huge in Japan.

I do hope I am wrong and it sells on par with previous entries in the series and causes a large bump in Switch sales. I love my Switch. It is the fist Nintendo console I've owned since the N64. I am hoping they re-release some older games on the Switch like Mario Galaxy and Pokemon X/Y & Sun/Moon.

Well i don't know, they don't seem really tempted to port 3D Mario games since they always perform well. I think it would be underwhelming if the next mario game is just a port of Mario Galaxy. And pokemon, i don't see that happening either since they like remaking all of them but i mean that's pretty much the same but you will have to wait longer for X/Y, like pretty sure it won't come before end cycle of the next Nintendo console lmao. The next one is the 4G remake which should be the next game they make or after a sequel to Sw/Sh.

Yeah Animal Crossing is going to be one of the biggest games Switch ever gets, that thing is an absolute monster with the casual crowd, I know people who normally would never touch video games who got a DS/3DS for AC.

And personally, I'd rather Nintendo didn't remake/re-release any more old games for Switch. My biggest problem with the platform is that it's flooded with recycled old leftovers from previous generations, it needs more NEW games; don't make Mario Galaxy HD, make Mario Galaxy 3.

Well, they proposed ARMS and Astral Chain, no one buy it. They propose a scandalously shitty Pokemon, 6 millions in 3 days.

Capitalism gives what people buy.

The PlayStation 4 was the second best-selling console with sales of 371,272 consoles sold, followed by the Xbox One with 135,915 units, the 3DS with 18,015 units, and the PlayStation Vita with just 21 units.

Black Friday is a week later in 2019 than it was in 2018. In 2019 Black Friday is on November 29 and in 2018 it was on November 23.

Just out of curiosity, does it look like this weeks sales will be posted on Wednesday again?

Nothing in your comment made sense and was really a forced "pokemon shield is ****" comment.

Of course a new fighting mostly motion control franchise will sell less than the biggest video game franchise that has a tv show, game cards, hit game app and touched multiple generations. Same goes for Astral Chain that was announced last minute and is pretty niche looking. It apparently did well enought but it also just came out and nintendo is still advertising it online so it will do good in the long run, maybe word of mouth cause you know, new franchise.

So the fact that these sell less than pokemon isn't due to capitalism but just basic knowledge that people are more tempted to buy something they know and already like than something new and different.

Also, i'm 40 hours in Shield and it's my favorite pokemon game since Black/White 2. It is far better than what we experienced during the 3DS era imo and it is a step in the right direction. Idc if there isn't every pokemon in it, the game brings more new interesting stuff to the table than every 3DS game combined.
