Forums - Gaming Discussion - Looking for a game to play with my wife

I usually don't do this but... I need recommendations. My wife isn't much of a gamer. We played Peggle last night (prefer it to Peggle 2) and she was player one. She didn't even know which buttons to press! We were supposed to be playing split screen and she wound up playing online by accident.

She didn't even know where the "X" button was without the lights on.

Needless to say, she's not a gamer but she likes playing with me. Well, after a few years, I'm in the market for a new game to play with her. Something with simple controls and intuitive gameplay.

I own every console and even Kinect, Kinect 2, PS Moves, and Wii Remotes (for Wii and Wii U). Any suggestions?

Mario Kart 8 - Easy to grasp and very fun to play with your family. I loved playing this with my gf back in the day. I think its a great couples game.
Mario Party - Same logic as MK8 but in a very significantly inferior franchise.
Little Big Planet series - Same logic, but with all the "cute" that comes with this franchise. Dont know hows your wife's personality, she may love or be annoyed by this.
Rayman legends - Colorful, cute, fun, easy to understand, great music. love this game. Would recommend. 10/10.
Dark Souls/Bloodborne - Nothing speeds up those divorce papers like punishing your partner. Let her play solo and die over and over again. Are you trying to send a message? Who can tell, its all so bizarre. What is even going on between the two of you.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Here are some ideas, but you will have to figure out your wife's general preferences to see what she would like most.

Story Oriented Games - Adventure games or turn-based RPGs with a heavy story focus.  You can play together and take turns with the controller. Examples: Dragon Quest 9, Undertale, Final Fantasy 6-10, old LucasArts games like Secret of Monkey Island

Local Co-op Games - NSMB is great.  Castle Crashers is a good one.  I haven't played River City Girls, but I believe that is good.  Any old beat'em up like Double Dragon or Golden Axe.  Make sure to stick with a game that has relatively simple controls on this.

Rhythm Games - Just Dance or Rock Band come to mind, but there are plenty of rhythm games out there.  Cadence of Hyrule has simple controls too.

Local Competitive - Pick something with simple controls like Wii Sports, Mario Kart or Puyo Puyo Tetris.

Cause you told her "X" instead of "Cross".

Portal is the first series that comes to mind. Great puzzle solving game the two of you can play

Lara Croft GO. Great puzzler. Nice graphics for a small potatoes game. In game hints if a particular puzzle is burning you out. I just played it early this morning for the first time in months. I tried to look up the U.S. price while posting this comment, but I keep getting redirected to the Canadian Store, where it's currently on sale for $2.74. US and Canadian stores are usually the same in terms of sales/deals, so it's likely on sale for you too.

Overcooked is a lot of fun to play in co-op, and is quite easy to get a handle on quickly.
