with that graph it's hard to grasp that the DS fell just short of reaching the 155m the PS2 did, as afaik the PS4 is still tracking pretty well with the PS2

PS2 kept selling for years and years in smaller developing markets which Nintendo has yet to really tap into.

PS2

NA-53.65m

EU-55.28m

JP-23.18m

RotW-25.57m

NDS

NA-57.39m

EU-52.07m

JP-33.01m

RotW-12.43m

I'd be interested to see a comparison of Switch with 360 and PS3 individually, since a lot of people's predictions have Switch landing close to those systems lifetime.

I can add that to the list of monthly Gap Charts. Especially with the 3DS vs PSP at this point not happening. So I was thinking on dropping it.

Cool, thanks. :) Was trying to think of comparisons we hadn't had yet.

It's a shame we don't have accurate tracking for older systems, it'd be cool to see, say, Switch vs PS1.

If you come up with any more ideas for Gap Charts feel free to let me know. I do agree it is a shame we can't do comparisons with anything older than the 7th generation.

Cheers, will do. :) Looking forward to seeing how Switch vs PS3 and Switch vs 360 pan out.

I've taken a quick look and the Switch is current light years ahead of the 360 and PS3 after 31 months. Xbox 360 is at 18.7M and the PlayStation 3 is at 20.9M. That is well below the 38.75M the Switch has sold to date. The 360 and PS3 had a long lifespan, so it is possible in a few years the gap will start to close.

So Switch is tracking almost as well as PS3+360?

I like the 3DS+WiiU one. It will be interesting to see how that holds up after January.

And it's almost the same question as: "can it outsell the PS3"?

Switch is doing very good, even compared to Wii U+3DS.

I'd like to do charts comparing to older consoles like the PS2, PS1, etc, but we don't have weekly sales data for anything older than the 7th generation (DS, PSP, 360, PS3, Wii).

What about monthly or yearly instead of weekly for the older consoles? I know this site doesn't have all that data but alot of it can be found on other forums, I could do some digging up if you want and @Shadow1980 has alot of old data compiled.

Indeed, the gap was 28 million at Switch's launch and just 3.9 million now, so it has gained by roughly 24 million thus far.

Ah, didn't realize the difference would be quite that stark. I suppose PS3/360 didn't exactly race out of the gates.

So Switch is so far selling twice as fast as the 360 and a little under twice as fast as PS3.
