Forums - Sales Discussion - So.. CNBC says Xbox has sold 46.9 WW, any thoughts?

Probably sitting on shelves somewhere. That number wouldn't be too far off total worldwide shipments sold to distributor

Percent difference between the two numbers is less than 10% (7.75% to be more accurate)... I consider those the same numbers. So I am not sure what we are suppose to discuss.

That's still bad as it's below half of PS4.

and its likely CNBC's number isnt more accurate than VGChartz.
Supposedly its just 1 analysts prediction.

Probably shipped numbers. Sold through could be a million or two less.

Can we agree in the middle and say Xbox One has sold average? It's no sales disaster like Wii U or Vita (sub-20m) but not a beast like PS4 or Switch (over 100m) or would average be something a bit higher like 3DS (~75m)?

The Switch is at 38 million at the moment why are you so sure that they will reach 100 million? i think after the release of xbox scarlett and ps5 switch sales will drop alot.

sorry for double post!

It might not but worst case scenario it makes it pretty close.

Why not it has a monopoly on the portable market and grabs players from the console market as well, it may very well possibly pass the X1 this coming holiday and surpass the SNES come the end of the FY, PS5 and XS will also have very little to no impact on it because people by the Switch for different reasons to the other platforms. No drop is coming at this point people have been claiming that since the PS4 Pro and X1X.

perhaps they got it directly from Microsoft, i mean are you really surprised that it is undertracked on vgchartz?

And why would Microsoft share that number with CNBC?

Daniel Ahmad mentioned that Xbox was at ~41M at the end of 2018. There's just no chance that Xbox has sold 6 million units so far this year. So it's definately not undertracked on VGchartz either.

Well, theoretically it would be possible that Microsoft shared that number with CNBC. Microsoft and NBC have strong ties, they even founded MSNBC together.

But in this case, they got the number from the analyst company IDC:  https://www.idc.com/about

"Of the 46.9 million Xbox Ones sold worldwide through the second quarter of 2019, just 0.3% of them have been in Japan, according to the International Data Corporation." (And I'm shocked that I seem to be the only one to read the linked article instead of wildly speculating, where the number is coming from)

On the other hand it is funny that you take the number mentioned by Daniel Ahmad as a fact, since he is also just an analyst, not an insider of Microsoft.

In this article, they said 45 million and it was back in 2018

If they have bought between 3 and 5M themselves perhaps they are right.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Today, Microsoft still struggles to sell consoles in Japan. Of the 46.9 million Xbox Ones sold worldwide through the second quarter of 2019, just 0.3% of them have been in Japan, according to the International Data Corporation.

According to Famitsu. XBOX ONE sold 108,000 in Japan (as of September 2019.)

108,000 ÷ 0,003 = 36,000,000
