No chance? You're clearly underestimating how badly the gaming community wants FF7 Remake. Especially the fact that they've added the turn based option back in it. Nah my vote is definitely FF7 Remake and Cyberpunk 2077. They will win both weeks. The holidays will be interesting indeed. PS4 may be able to pull a month away from Switch if they do a permanent price drop. That's a big maybe. Otherwise I don't see PS4 taking any more months away from Switch.

I'm not saying it cant or won't win those weeks but shouldn't it be assumed that the majority of people interested in FF7 or 2077 already have a PS4? (Or XB/PC in 2077s case)

Those games will be huge software sellers but I'm not sure if the system selling potential will be huge.

You're absolutely right, Zorg. I was mistaken. It won't be the hardware that pushes it here. It's the software sales that will show an increase.

And most of your dear gaming community already has their PS4 since we got the announcement in 2015. The FF fanbase has been on onboard since a long time in the PS4 ecosystem, why suddenly buy PS4 in masses for this game in perticular ?

And I mean, you're clearly avoiding the Animal Crossing issue I've just brought on ...

I'm avoiding the Animal Crossing issue? Hmm... So I'll pose the same question to you. You think that folks who don't have a Switch already will buy Switches in masses for Animal Crossing? I mean you do have a valid point about gamers already having their PS4s. So I'll take renege on my statement. I believe the same thing will happen with Animal Crossing if it doesn't have a special console bundling. Most of the folks who are waiting for Pokemon will have picked up a Switch for that game because I know they're gonna do a special console for that game.

A lot of females play animal crossing, probably more than any other game not on mobile devices. Pokémon is probably the closest thing to it, but the it isn’t an complete overlap. Also just casual gamers in general

Well Switch done a very strong week with Lite, but I suspect it can be undertracked. PS4 hold itself with stable sales, but the bloodbath was inevitable.

No PS4 price cut is indeed ridiculous by now.
Of course, it's still selling well, but it's time to let it sell all if can before next gen kicks in.
Next holidays will be all about the PS5, the price cut time is now.

I'm still quite sure we will see a PS4 Super Slim before PS5 launch, combined with a price cut. I expected it would be released in September/October this year, but it's pretty unlikely now since there wasn't any annoucement in the latest State of Play.

I must have clearly underestimated Animal Crossing's demographic. I seriously had no idea that more females play that title. I always thought it was just an appeal to Nintendo gamers.

This sounds like a reasonable explanation, but it doesn't fit with the sales history of consoles.  The XBox360 launched in 2005 and had absolutely no impact upon PS2 sales.  Do you also think the XBox360 had no impact upon PS3 sales?

360 and PS3 were similar systems competing for the same demographics, Switch and PS5 will not be.

You may be right.  I may be right.  But your original argument was the data in the OP proves your point.  It doesn't.  We won't know who is right after we get several months of data from PS5.

Animal crossing is also one of the few Nintendo franchises that does better in Europe than in America.

What's with the sudden rise of Xbox sales in Japan? From less than 100 to 500 this week.

Sakurai.

At first glance it seems ridiculous to attribute a 400%-rise to a mention from Sakurai, but we still talk about only 400 units, so it is possible. Probably millions of japanese watched Sakurai presenting Banjo&Kazooie for Smash and he clearly said everyone should play Banjo on Xbox.

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

I think Xbox  was trending on Twitter in Japan after the presentation

This sets up what could be a hectic holiday season for sales.

I'm thinking over 10 million shipped for the quarter. Last year it did 9.40m

It's possible. However I think we're likely going to see a massive boost in shipment for this quarter over next. It's been reported that early shipments for the Lite has been absolutely massive not only to support the launch but also to cut in before the tarrifs.
