Forums - Sales Discussion - Global Hardware 21st Sept 2019; Switch Lite launch numbers!

I think it's worth noting that these numbers aren't just from the Lite boost; Link's Awakening will also have given the base model a boost, as we saw in Japan.

Fantastic numbers for Switch, but the big takeaway for me is that its explosion hasn't affected sales of PS4 and Xbone, which reinforces what I and others have been saying for a long time that they don't directly compete, that there's room for both to coexist, and that as a result the arrival of the next Playstation and Xbox won't be a problem for Switch.

I came to say the exact same thing lol.

What's going on with the XB1 in japan though? That's like a 500% jump.

When will PS4 win a Week?

6x master league achiever in starcraft2

Beaten Sigrun on God of war mode

Beaten DOOM ultra-nightmare with NO endless ammo-rune, 2x super shotgun and no decoys on ps4 pro.

1-0 against Grubby in Wc3 frozen throne ladder!!

Switch just shy of 600k.  Impressive.

The Switch isn't competing with the PS4.  It is competing with the PS5.

CoD release week, potentially

Good launch numbers for the Lite, specially in Japan where i think is going to outsell each week from now on the base version, Japan really love handhelds....Also, the fact that is 100$ cheaper in USA is another important factor because in USA price is a very important thing, more than being loyal to a brand or performance and power. I'm really curious how Lite is going to perform in US....As for Europe i expect doing good but not as great as the other markets.

Until Lite, Switch was on pace of maybe end the year around 18'5M, which was already a good growth over last year. With Lite, now it seems possible it can reach 20M, but we'll need more data from next weeks to be certain of that.

As for the rest, nothing has changed. PS4 and XBO will have their last great hollyday season starting in a few weeks. COD MW and Death Stranding bundles are going to perform well for PS4 in the next months, and Microsoft will find a way to perform well during holiday season in USA like always does with good deals and discounts.

If PS4 ends around 15'5M sold for the year, without price cuts, at 300$, during its 6th year, it won't be the best absolute year relating sales but it will be the most impressive for me, proving how historically good is PS4 doing, better than any console at this point.

Nah, it won't directly compete with PS5 either. It's a totally different value proposition and sells for totally different reasons. PS5 will fill the same niche as PS4, if Switch doesn't compete with one, it won't compete with the other.

That's some amazing launch week for the Lite, I'm sitting here re-downloading 400GB of games onto my New Switch V2, not sure what that would be called... the one with the better battery lol, Nintendo are killing it with the switch both in hardware and fantastic software, it's rare to see a week pass without a title on the Switch in the high 80s or into the 90's even on meta. Unifying their games vision from 3DS+WiiU into all the Switch has made for an amazing system for those who are jumping on board with it (EA just dropped an utter turd of a Legacy Fifa2020 on the console which just sold 600k in a week, so good job them) However.... I am going to say one negative to the current boom, actually... it's a sort of 2 for one deal ye can take away from it what you want. All of their eggs are in one basket (a basket based on an Nvidia shield which was not new hardware when Nintendo put their logo and breath of the wild on it) and also... when you're riding so high like this, there is but one way to go. (it is rarely further up).

Phenomenal week though, I mean when you hear about a few cases of people having issues with their Switch lite's coming out of the box it kinda sets minds at ease when you consider that even if 1000 of them came out of the box and exploded into tiny shards of metal and plastic... it would still be a failure rate of 0.2% of the systems, which is well in line with industry norms, it would actually be a fantastic low amount of them dying on launch.

Now..... I'm gonna get back to trying to bend a paper clip for my OG Switch.... for no reason what so ever.

I went through the exact same procedure about two weeks ago when I got my Mariko Switch. Had to transfer first my accounts and hope everything went well. Then download all the digital games which was close to 400gb, and then pop every physical game in a update them. I have about 200 or more titles in total.

Switch finally overtakes PS4 in yearly sales for the first time ever after 9 months into this year. PS4 did well in it's 6th year although Nintendo had to switch back into a cheap dedicated handheld sku to do it.

CoD didn't push the PS4 as much as people though it would last year. Why would it potentially do it this year.

Hence the potentially. I could have said Death Stranding instead, might have better chances.

One week I'm fairly sure the PS4 can win is the Final Fantsy VII remake release week in early March. But that will also be it's last hurrah, as it will go quickly downhill from there, with the successor coming out half a year later...
