Forums - General Discussion - Humanity could benefit from a soft reset

It wouldn't work. They would likely just grow into tribes that eventually fight each other. One tribe would do something bad to another and you essentially end up with Chicago.

Also, God already tried it when he flooded the planet.

Fucking funny.  You don't believe the Noah's ark bullshit do you?

I just sometimes think about an scenario like there is an huge global danger and it will kill 99% of the people on the planet in 20 years. It only can be avoided if ALL countries are hardly working together for these next 20 years as only then they can find a solution to protect the people.
And then I would hope that these 20 years of 100% cooperation are enough to show everyone that war and such stuff is completely useless and no one ever things about war and such.

I mean, even ignoring the fact that nothing is objectively "good" or "bad" and therefore any suggestion of "bad" ideas from the past would be massively tainted by your own, or whoever is making the judement's, bias, you'd also be erasing any ideas that you thought were good which would be much more detrimental than any benefits you'd gain from the opposite.

That was exactly my thinking...

The OP decides what is good or bad? And his first great idea is wipe out a good portion of the population... :)

Wouldn't work. You should rather conquer us all, expose the rotten system and impose your way to 'soft-reset' humanity.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I'm not sure why you would want to do that. Life for humans continues to get better. We just need to keep going. There is no way that resetting things could speed up progress. It would just slow things down.

Yes. Is that a problem?

Ermm no offense, but this sounds pretty creepily authoritarian.. Like, dictatorial-type speak, let's just put it that way.

At the very least it's depressingly nihilistic and is the complete opposite of progress by any stretch of the imagination.

Most people are well-meaning in nature. Some are misguided or even have bad intentions but people don't get to decide that for others unless said others are actively negatively affecting society and/or other individuals. "Live and let live." "Don't tread on me," etc etc.. Two of my life's philosophies you might say..

And the children and babies only thing is pretty silly considering adults (particularly older adults) are the ones that carry the increased knowledge and wisdom of life experiences, prior history and prior generations.. THEY are what shape the future generations.

Those poor unicorns.

So who is going to make sure the babies and children don't kill themselves?
