I used to be sporting around an i7 6700K CPU for about 3 years now, but since 2 weeks ago all that changed with Ryzen 9 3900X.

1) Insane performance for a $500 cpu.

2) God Damn FAST

3) Wraith Prism Cooler - Let me tell you about this sexy cooler that comes bundled with the CPU.. You see this cooler, it is freakin amazing. Period. (It is so good I tossed away my water cooler)

4) 12 core 24 threads

5) Boot up time is near instant, and if you're like me and you like all things fast then take a look at my setup. With ryzen 9 together with an x570 mobo and a pcie 4.0 m.2 ssd to go along with it, it'll insure super fast load times.

I used to have an internal ssd before, and once I made the switch to pcie 4.0 I will never go back. Metro Exodus loading screen is done way before Artyom can finish his first or second sentence.

This is all you need for crazy neck breaking loading speeds. (well at least it's what I got)

ram = 32gb g.skill trident z neo (Made for AMD Ryzen 3000 & X570 Platform)

mb = aorus elite x570 (x570 mobo utilizes pcie 4.0 better)

PCIe 4.0 SSD = Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe 4.0 Gen4 PCIe M.2 Internal SSD

But can it run Crysis?

Edit: I just checked out of curiosity because the price point of $500 seemed a bit high for AMD. My hunch was correct. Looks like the 9900K is actually cheaper AND slightly better for gaming than the 3900X. Did not expect that. The 9700 is even cheaper and still better. Looks like the 3700X is basically the same as the 3900X in games but loads cheaper. I'm just gonna hope for everyone that those core heavy monsters will become useful in gaming at some point.

very nice piece of kit you got yourself there, I'm loving the speed that decent powered PC's coupled with Windows 10 can get to a usable state, I was so used to my old Core2Quad for years that I still have a habit of walking passed my PC and hitting the power button before boiling the kettle to make a tea to sit down and use the PC with.... even though if I turn on either of my machines now they're at the login screen before I can get my ass into the seat nevermind boiling a kettle lol.

Price of standard SSD's and M2 drives right now really means there is no excuse for anyone using a mechanical drive as their boot drive in a PC imo, even the slimmest PC budget should be able to afford one of the kingston 240GB SSD's for the OS and program files and they cost what... 20e or so? IMO boot drive and where you store your commonly used programs should always be on an SSD in 2019 it is one of the most important and quality of life upgrades you can get a PC for so little money.

I don't think anybody expects the 3900X to be a gaming value oriented CPU, it's mostly just a productivity monster ... 

I believe most people expect the 3700X to be the main gamer's CPU since it's much better value with nearly identical gaming performance to the 3900X. Also, the 9900K is like 5 dollars cheaper which is practically scraping the barrel at that point ... 

More cores won't be the straw that breaks the camel's back when the competition isn't doing anything ... 

9900K is cheaper because it doesn't come with a cooler.

I have very specific opinions about people who subject their CPUs to stock coolers instead of a sweet Noctua D15.

Nice build. What's the clock speed and timings of your RAM?

While the 3900X is a productivity monster, it's not far behind in games. The difference is so low now that even if it's not bottlenecked by the GPU (which is true 95% of the time), it's not felt any slower than the i9 9900K.

But yeah, for pure gaming, 3700X or 3800X are better choices, unless you want to keep your CPU for 5+ years, as by then the extra cores might come in handy even during gaming. Still, the 3900X seems to hit slightly higher speeds than the 2 octacores, so AMD is probably binning it's fastest chips into this one (and probably the future 3950X).

Nice choice. I'm also sporting an i7-6700k, but I intend to upgrade to Ryzen at some point. I do video editing, so I might end up going with the 3800X, along with a custom cooler, since I like my current one I'm using for my 6700k.

I do hope AMD's next Ryzen lineup is more gaming oriented though.

And this is with one of those factory overclocked 2080 Ti's.... the CPU isnt the bottlenecks for performance.

On avg its probably less than 1% performance differnce, between the two, for general gameing (at 1440p).

Yeah the "smart" consumer buys a 9600k or 3600X and calls it a day.
Better to save the money for a stronger graphics card instead.
