I hate XIII (played it for 3 hours realised it did everything I hate in a FF game turned it off snapped the disk never played another FF until X and X-2 came out on switch).

Seems quite a reaction to not liking a game, you could have exchanged it for sweet cash.

Indeed you are correct. But I don't trade my games in. They are mine. Even when I buy a bad one. They are still mine. The really sad thing was I was a manager for Eb Games in Australia at the time and I still didn't trade my games in.

I will fully admit that I have never before snapped a disk like that and never since snapped a disk either. FFXIII simply did my head in and I will forever say that XIII and XII are the worst games ever in the FF lineup. To me the biggest mistake they made was going action based. They should have maintained FF as a Turn Based system and made an entirely new IP as action based.

A fair arguement. Both had ATB based parts though. FF12 had a more open environment but actions were taken after a time but could be interrupted and moves changed. 13 is a different matter, personally my least favourite FF game but not because of the gameplay (which was dull) but more of it's 'fixed' gameplay. You had contained battles, an ATB and everything but control of only 1 character? extremely linear fights, story and leveling, weird pacing to the story as well.

It's still however a good game just not a good FF game.

I too would like them to stick with ATB turn based but sadly they aren't making those anymore.

I bolded that which I totally agree with that was definitely part of what made me hate the game.

I probably would have accepted and played and probably enjoyed it IF it wasn't a FF game but a totally new IP.

An example of that would be Vagrant Story. Action Based I thoroughly enjoyed. The story was basic but fun. The Weapon Crafting so frustrating but I would always be am I gonna get something good and useful this time!!!!! Sometimes I did, sometimes I didn't hahahahha.

You'd have to play and see what you like, cause Final Fantasy can get you very divisive opinions.
Personally I find X to be very average in the franchise, It'd be around the middle of "the best FFs" list, but I guess this is no thread for criticisms. I'd recommend you play if you have the time anything between 4-15. Skip 13 tho, you dont need that kind of negativity in your life.

That's what I said to people as well. This is the issue with it, as a game it's good, very good, looks great but as a Final Fantasy game, it just wasn't up to par for me. If it was called something else, didn't have the FF stamp, many might have played and enjoyed it a lot regardless of name.

Vagrant story is great, odd that you enjoyed that but didn't FF12 as they were made by the same team. Although what Ivalice team are doing now (if they even exist) is beyond me. SquEnix have done a lot to not release FF games, which is kinda sad, as we used to get 3 per gen, now we will be lucky to have 1.

Basically I think its because FF12 changed the fighting from TB to ATB and like I said strongest weapon in the game at the halfway point ruined it for me. Vagrant Story basically cause it didn't have the name FF attached to it only the name Square. So I looked forward to the game as a new IP rather than be disappointed that it wasn't what I wanted in a FF TB game.

I hope they would consider Vagrant Story on switch. I also hope that the OP is reading this and will be giving X-2 a go. And 8 and 9 and if you really must 12 (bleck) LOL

I have noticed that lol.

I'll be doing X-2 next, then XII (as I have already purchased those). I will go from there. Definitely interested in F7 Remake now.
