Well, the frequency of the Directs has dropped down in the last years, especially non-specific ones for only one game

Any idea why; Are they trying to quality over quantity more?

Nintendo is also using the Directs as free advertising, and it doesn't need any of it with the Switch, especially not right now.

On the other hand, after looking up Wikipedia, there are already more Directs this year (14-15, the Indie World from January was released in December in Japan already) than we got 2015 (12 directs) or 2016 (8 directs, 4 of them Japan only) though that might have been due to Iwatas deteriorating health. Interestingly enough however is the composition of those 15 directs:

  • 4 Indie Showcase/Highlights/World (Name depends on the targeted region)
  • 4 FEH Channel (Fire Emblem Heroes News, don't make it to the news normally)
  • 2 Pokemon Direct (for Pokemon SwoSh)
  • 2 Smash Ultimate Directs
  • And then 1 each: Normal Direct, One Game Direct (Super Mario Maker 2), and the  E3 Direct

So yeah, there haven't been many "normal" Directs lately, which makes it feel more empty than it actually is. Doesn't help that not much came after the E3 Direct anymore yet.

Around the Network

No Direct since E3? Then surely we'll have one next month. And wow, Zelda is less than a month away.

Random thing I noticed, but in some footage of the new Zelda game, I can see there are 20 total heart containers (based on there being 10 per row). Didn't the original only have 16 heart containers? I guess it's not surprising that there's more new content in the remake, and I'm probably the last to know this, but cool :P

Some reason I thought SKUs meant different system versions... Games makes more sense now...

Whatever happened to that Star Fox racing game that was rumored?? Hopefully one of these skus is a new F-Zero or Diddy Kong Racing 2, both of these are very unlikely but a person can dream!

Me too. I haven't heard of SKU being used in the context of games before.
