Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Battletoads Gamescom Gameplay (Looks God Awful!)

I don't know if English is not your first language or if you just don't understand the colloquial usage of the word look.  "Looks" is frequently used as a shorthand for "Based on what I see, I anticipate it will be".

If I say "looks like rain"  I am saying "based on what I can observe I think there will be rain".  I am not saying that the sky literally looks like rain.  If my waiter brings me a steak and I say "oh that looks delicious", I am almost certainly not saying that the steak literally looks delicious, since it is impossible for something to somehow visually be delicious (unless you have synesthesia or something).  I almost certainly mean to say "based on what I can observe, I anticipate the steak will be delicious".  If I see a trailer of a movie and I say "looks boring", I am almost certainly not saying that the visuals of the movie are boring.  I am almost certainly saying "based on that trailer I anticipate the final product will be boring."  And when someone says "looks god awful" they are almost certainly saying "based on what I can tell, I anticipate this game will suck ass."

Wiki:  Look

"To look is to use sight to perceive an object."

So how does looking at something make you feel something?

First Microsoft killed Conker, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, and now BattleToads.

What's next, turning RC Pro-Am into the new Grand Theft Auto?

It is silly to blame MS for what devs make tho because MS gives them all the freedom.  Killer Instinct for an example was a huge succes and people love to omit it from their list when they hate on MS.

Because its clear someone hasn't done there research on Rare's history and the easiest way to point the finger at to just blame MS. MS had no say in majority of Rare's latest outings. In fact it was because of Rare's under preforming releases that MS shifted them to Kinect games which surprisingly found incredible success with.

...ok. Whats your point?

You don't see the double standards?

No, I don't. Just like someone sees a trailer for a movie and likes it and then sees a trailer of a movie they don't like. Are they being unfair to one of the movies then?

Gameplay looks slow and easy-ish, but the art style is almost perfect as far as I am concerned. Makes more sense to me than a “realistic” tae l8ke killer instinct, we are talking about beating people with anvil fists and ram horn heads.

It's only two buttons, Analog is irrelevant, you'll just use your tounge in the direction you're facing. A game having a move as L2 + Square for example isn't that complicated.

Analog is relevant because the way it's worded in the tutorial it implies that the move won't come out if the stick is on neutral, which is stupid.

Analog is movement, how often are you not pushing the stick in a brawler? In my limited experience attacking usually stops your character in these types of games anyway, you don't let go of the stick, you're always pushing it in the direction you want to hit.

Its pretty obvious, To say one game looks like complete garbage and say the other game looks gorgeous, considering they both opt for the same thing is what sounds weird to me. Basically, its like looking at two identical picture frames and saying one looks like crap and the other looks amazing. Its basically the comparison I am making here.

If Battletoads looks like something from Newgrounds or some cheap Indy phone game than same can be said for Cuphead. But no one will bash Cuphead's art style. Like I said in my pic comparison. Its the community in a nutshell. It says a lot about the people in here. Double standards is huge.

Well if you think Cuphead and Battletoads look the same, then we can drop this discussion right here. Ridiculous.

Battletoads has the style of a 2010's cartoon, Cuphead has the style of a 1940's cartoon. They are not close to the same. But even if they were exactly the same it doesn't matter. One art style may be good for one game while not for another. Battletoads isn't a new series so a change in art style can always be abrasive.

Horizon Chase Turbo is great and I like the art style, that doesn't mean I want The Crew or Need For Speed to look like it. That's not double standards.

First of all, apart from both being cartoony Battletoads and Cuphead don't look anything alike. Also, even if the game had the exact same artstyle as Cuphead I'd still say it looks like a generic beat'em up with close to no platforming elements which are what I like so much about the NES game.

Signature goes here!

No it really cant...

Cuphead emolates the retro cartoon feeling and pulls it off amazingly.
plus its gameplay works as it is.

Battletoads looks like a cheap flash game.... and the gameplay looks "off" to say it mildly, it doesnt even feel like a battletoads game.

Its a "night & day" differnce between the two.
You might think they both are aiming for the same thing, but the differnce is how well they pull it off then.

Like theres clearly a massive quality differnce between the two.
Battletoads did not get anywhere near the Tender love & care (tlc) of Cuphead.... and it shows.
