Forums - Politics Discussion - Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft issue Joint Statement on potential tariffs on China

(Message to mods: I uploaded this thread earlier, or tried to anyways, but ran into some troubles when trying to upload some images from my phone. This one doesn’t have the photos and I was able to post it, so I would like to request that you lock the prior thread and allow this one to continue. Thank you.)

Surprised I didn’t see someone already talk about this. If so, I apologize for the repeat. But it seems only two things can get Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft to stop competing and stand side by side: The Game Awards and Politics impacting their business.

The Big Three recently issued a joint statement, link to it above, on the proposed tariffs on China from the Trump Administration and its potential negative effects on the video game console market and video games in general.

If nothing else, hopefully this serves as a reminder that politics affects us all and while some of us may not want to approach it, talk or think about it, or engage in it, life goes on, the world goes on, and it eventually finds its way back to us and to a lesser degree, oir hobbies.

As if I needed another reason to despise Trump, the fact that a PS5 or Scarlett could end up costing $100 more than it ought to be because of some stupid fucking tariff just infuriates me. I hope Trump's trade war crushes what little chance he had at re-election in the first place. All it does is pass the costs to consumers, and for the 99%, well, we're not made out of money. $100 is a lot of money for most of us. Buying a piece of consumer electronics is already a significant investment without the prices being artificially inflated by tariffs.

I'm glad for the tariffs, we have been getting screwed by China for several decades. Maybe the big 3 will make there damn systems in the usa,Japan or somewhere else. And let China know they can go straight to hell

Yeah, like it's just that easy. Snap of the finger and suddenly the big 3 can start manufacturing in the U.S. when all their infrastructure is in China -_-

What sticks out more is the belief that the USA have been screwed over for several decades. Nowhere else in the world are video games so cheap relative to the average disposable income of the population, hence why both multiconsole-ownership and tie ratios are comfortably in first place in a global ranking.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

You do know that these tarffis wont hurt China much... in the end its YOU who will pay the increased tarrifs.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

In other words, Trump is doing to his followers what he promised them to do to someone else. Americans are now the Mexicans that will pay for the wall.

This is terrible for the industry and it's consumers. Not even sure how, or if, this will impact Canada, but that's not the point....I can't hate the prick more than I already do. This is far from the biggest issue brought about by president shit-for-brains. Sucks, but I won't get too riled up about it. Whatrugondo?

Yeah, China is just ripping us off. How dare they have businesses that we are interested in!?  How dare they sell us stuff that we are perfectly happy buying, those monsters I tell ya!
