Forums - General Discussion - Popular Twitch speedrunner banned for "leaking" the N-Word

Never did I use this word, be written or spoken. I just don't have the mindset nor the need for using such slur words.

And that's coming from someone who swears all the fucking time.

I didn't give a real response because it was a really dumb comparison. I felt mocking your example was sufficient.

I looked up his trans community comments, its not that bad. But maybe something is wrong with me, maybe I'm not offended easily enough. I'm really fine with people saying whatever they want unless its a call for violence. Even when I here progressives say ridiculous crap, I don't really care and I can be friends with them.

Did you just call black people in the US ignorants? Look buddy, I don't know how this works in the UK but that's not cool in the US.

Your example was bad, as usual. You brought up Asians and Jews, but they don't really call each other racial epithets in jest. Many black people, atleast in the US, do use that word in a neutral manner. You can call them "ignorants" but the word is used neutrally. That word being used in a neutral manner encourages other groups to do the same. I'm not really arguing the morality, this is just reality. I think many of us understand he was using it in jest and that's why we aren't bothered.

I can understand why people would be bothered by anything Nazi related, but I really do value freedom. Also, trying to punish people for being racist doesn't actually eliminate racism.

Mocking was your only response because you had no counter that's the point hence why you never answered the question as the answer would either shoot down your earlier point or have you in a position of double standards for not being consistent because end of the day accident or not both are still ban worthy under the TOS and you can't debunk this.

No I called the people who use it casually ignorants if you think that every black person in US does it then it says more about your assumptions than anything, US has people like Ben Carson after all who thinks slaves were people who just immigrated to the US so it wouldn't surprise me if certain groups of people think its use is fine casually as US has a troubled history.

The example was fine you just have no counter to the argument which is apparent it's even more ironic that this very part of your post has cemented my point as you're trying to defend people using it as not ignorant right after you acknowledge Jews and Asians don't call each other by the terms used to demean them for the same reason many blacks don't tolerate the term for themselves. For the majority of black people the is no neutrality on the word it just symbolizes what it was created for a derogatory word to slur an ethnic group go to any majority black country and you won't find one were it's used in how you say as it's flat out offensive in them.

Freedom doesn't mean free of consequence and like I told someone earlier punishment is the only language some people will understand the are many people who know what they're doing is wrong and would keep doing it because of no retribution an example are trolls on social media and even certain people on online services like Live and PSN.

My counter was your example was dumb because it really is. The thing is you had to make a hyperbolic comparison because saying the n-word on its own isn't really that bad.

I will make a better example given you're terrible at this. Instead of comparing the n-word used in jest to child porn. How about just regular porn? You know, like maybe a lady that just has her boobs out? That would be a more reasonable comparison given child porn is generally seriously criminal shit with victims. If he is looking at child porn, at that point Twitch has some obligation to report him to authorities.

Frankly, I'm not arguing Twitch shouldn't do something in either scenario. I think a warning would be fine if the n-word is accidently seen or nude lady is accidently broadcasted. Again, its a live broadcast, sometimes things are unintentionally shown, things happen. If it happens multiple times, then bans make sense. Also, it looks like a witch hunt when you complain about trans comments which was more like condemnation of a group than trans people.

The UK has a troubled history as well, I mean its a very white country due to racism. Its no melting pot like the US and that's the way the UK likes it. But lets not get political.

No, your example was terrible but I made a better one, your welcome.

We agree Asians and Jews don't call each their racial epithets in a neutral manner, I think that's part why those words aren't said. Meanwhile the n-word is used often in a neutral manner and still a popular word in rap music. I feel that's partly why people use the n-word in jest. There are black people in the US that are actually opposed to the n-word said by anybody and I respect that. However, many black in the US trivialize the word. However, I'm a guy who likes freedom, I don't much care either way. If people want to use that word neutrally, I don't really give a fuck.

Maybe we will get to a point where saying the n-word is criminal, throw everybody jail who says it. Black people included. Then we will all be happier.

That's the thing about left wingers like you, you want to use the government to punish people in acting the way you feel is acceptable. Politically I fall in the center, I don't like to punish people unless they're really harming others or calling for violence. The left in US complains there are too many people in jail, while constantly encouraging legislation that puts people in jail.

I mean, I will ban anyone on here for using that word. So why shouldn't twitch?

On VGChartz we can't accidently broadcast the n-word.

Have you found that to be a problem? People accidently typing the n-word and posting it?

Saying something is dumb doesn't make it so or equate to automatic debunking especially when the is a failure to address the point put forward, your argument was that it's accidental so shouldn't be a ban and I gave another scenario that could be an accident to see if you'd be consistent in sticking to that stance in that scenario the example is consistent as both scenarios are people doing something wrong that accidentally gets broadcasted I used a serious offence in the example because your stance was because it's an accident nothing is wrong. So far your constant avoiding of answering the question highlights more and more you realize your argument has been shot down as you know that simply being an accident doesn't make things okay which is the point of the question your only defence was to try and compare the nature of what each person was doing which was null and void because the answer would remain the same, it's against the TOS so is ban worthy no ifs or buts. As for the trans part ask yourself why he brought up the being a lot of trans in the group to begin with when condemning the group the are also in the discord the are clear messages mocking trans people it isn't a witch hunt if you've made yourself a target through your own antics.

Yes UK has a troubled history only difference is the's more of an effort to integrate the different cultures hence why multiculturalism is one of the most notable and celebrated things over here the is also a far more harder response to things like racism if you used the N word here you'd be in serious trouble.

No my example was fine you didn't make an example you tried to hide behind a select group of ignorants using the word to justify it being used. Again freedom doesn't mean free of consequence and I'm not left wing either keep your US political labels to yourself because what you see as left or right differs heavily from the rest of the world and the fact that calling people left or right is your first port of call because people don't share your stance says a lot about you often it's people that shout left this and that who get upset when Brie Larson makes a statement or Gillette does an advert. Define harm as it's a very broad area you can cause someone a lot of harm just through the things you say.

Man, some people are so sensitive. It's just a temporary ban for violating Terms of Service. It's not that big of a deal. I've never seen as angry a group of people than those that aren't allowed to say or type a stupid word. There are bigger things to get upset over.

Your example was too extreme and I explained why, now move on. Saying the n-word isn't that bad and it wasn't intended to be broadcasted. All of that should be taken into consideration and it probably was. But they're punishing him anyway to appease people like yourself.

The UK has made great efforts staying very white, we can agree on that. Your population lacks diversity compared to ours. So you can boast about celebrating diversity but the numbers say otherwise.

I'm educating you on how the n-word is used in a neutral manner by many people. You can call them "ignorants" and attack me for pointing this out, I'm just sharing some facts with you. If all people decided maybe the n-word shouldn't be used in a neutral manner, it wouldn't affect me. I'm just explaining how its often used. But also when society tries to make these words hate or dangerous on their own, people begin to say them because they're given so much power.

You're indeed a left winger, you can dislike the label but you make the same talking points and have the same views. Trust me, you aren't a unique person with original thoughts.

The harm I'm concerned about is physical harm. You know, actual physical violence for the most part.

No they're punishing him because wait for it "It's against TOS" anything that violates the rules is punished you know much like how if you break the law you're pulled over it which is the point of the example if someone accidentally showed something like in the example and gets banned then the same has to apply across the board so your stance right now is because it's an accident it should be a warning even with serious scenarios like the one I gave an example of.

US should have a more diverse population not only are you a larger country that was founded by numerous nations going there the were different ethnic groups already there as opposed to UK which were white tribes battling each other and other Europeans for centuries so that's a no brainer.

No mate I'm educating you you just find the truth hard to swallow as the fact is the is no neutral use of the slur for the majority of black people as the word is just a derogatory term for us which is why casual use of it is ignorant and those who push its use are ignorant as you're promoting something that's sole purpose is to slight one particular group case point being how the Asians and Jews don't tolerate their slurs either. Don't pull the victim card either as you were never attacked get that BS out of here.

Too bad for you harm comes in more forms than physical this part funny enough highlights more why these rules are in place because under your notion here if someone doesn't get physical than it's alright despite the fact the are many different forms or harm and abuse.

A challenge to all of you saying it's OK.

If you are white, go stand in the middle of Harlem and call every black person you see the N-word. Let me know how that goes for you.

Well that's a bit excessive. Their argument is that people should be allowed to say the word in a non-offensive way.

I personally just don't see the point in using that word. It upsets a lot of people and only makes you look bad in many peoples eyes.

Twitch doesn't owe anybody a platform. And, he knew, or should have known, that this is against the rules. So, I don't feel sorry for him.

All of humanity, it seems, is in this super-sensitive, ridiculously PC climate right now, whether anyone likes it or now. Everyone should be aware of that, and act accordingly.

My point is that if you can't say it directly in front of them, what makes it OK elsewhere?

I agree if people are arguing the notion of using it in an unoffensive manner than surely they should take up your request and have a casual conversation with any random black person they can even the the S'up N word opener they're defending here. I have a feeling the outcome won't be positive though.
