Forums - Website Topics - New Badges Added

Update - since starting the thread Talon has added dozens more. You can view the new ones in these posts - 1, 2, 3, 4,

Talon has added some new badges for users to acquire. Here's the latest batch:

The second lot are only available to members of the Sales Team, but the VG$ ones can be earned by anyone. How do you earn VG$? Well mostly by adding things to the GameDB. If you've never adding anything before, or haven't for some time, check out the tutorial thread here - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=233707 It's a lot easier than it may seem! Prediction League is also a good source of VG$... if you're good at predicting sales.

We've got a nice long list of other badges we want to add (over 75 in total!) and Talon will work to add them here and there. There's a lot of variety amongst them too, from db tasks, to special events, rewarding good behaviour, prediction league, user reviews and much more besides. I'll keep everyone updated whenever some new ones are added.

Did you remove the notification for getting a badge?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Nope, but Talon's going to add something better. In the meantime you can force them to pop up by going to your profile page then clicking on 'Home' (next to the VGChartz logo).

With the re-introduction of the Prediction League (and with @kirby007 insisting!!), I figured it might be a good time to educate the community as to how exactly you can earn VG$ (the currency used for all League activities). The majority of your VG$ are generated through game database contributions (right now, this is actually the only way to earn them). The following is a break-down of the VG$ you can earn, based upon the type of database submission:

 - New game added: $1.50
 - Banner added: $2.50
 - Boxart added: $2.00
 - Summary added: $4.50
 - Release Date added: $.75
 - Game information updated:
      - Alternate Name added (Japan, PAL, NA): $.75 each
      - Genre updated: $.50
      - Developer updated: $.75
      - Game rating added (CERO, PEGI, ESRB): $.50 each
 - Screenshot added: $.50 each
 - Extras added (Trophy, Achievement, etc.): $.50
 - Cheats added (Maps, Passwords, Walkthroughs, etc.): $1.50
 - FAQs added: $.25 + proceeds from FAQs purchased by community
 - Critic Review added: $1.00

There will be additional opportunities made available for earning VG$, but these are the only ways available today (beyond the initial $1000 you are given at sign-up). If you have any questions regarding how to submit any of the above, feel free to read up on the excellent Database Tutorial assembled by @versusevil and @vgpolyglot - I will update this thread as new features are added. In the meantime, feel free to keep banging away at our game database!!!!

Note: Please keep in mind that any attempt to "game" the system in order to generate additional VG$, will not be looked upon very favorably and could quickly lead to your being banned from any future database submissions. We absolutely want (and continue to encourage!!) our community to take part in helping build our game database - but we will not tolerate any abuse, for the sole sake of trying to increase your VG$. Thanks!!

...it should be noted - the fastest way to earn VG$ (besides fleshing out our GameDB), is to wager those earnings in the Prediction League!!!

OP updated, since Talon already added some more badges!

One more point to make - you'll now receive notifications if new badges have been added... ...and you'll receive that notification daily, until you clear the badge notices from your profile.

What is VG$ for other than wagering in the prediction league?

The sentence below is false.
The sentence above is true.

At the moment, that is it. We'll be adding things in the future though...

I got tons of badges about not having been banned, fancy and all... but why do I got badges for not being banned in 5 and 10 years when my account is only 2 years old? Might need to finetune that a bit.

Also, the 10 years not banned badge had been awarded twice.

Edit: seems like it got corrected now just after I posted this.
