What would a Switch Pro be?

Brand new system 5 8.47%

Upgraded Nintendo Switch 54 91.53%

We've been talking a lot about a possible Switch Pro for a while, but here's a big question:

Would it be a brand new system on it's own, or just an upgraded Switch? Probably the latter, so we don't have another Wii U situation.

I doubt the existance of a Switch Pro to begin with.

It depends when it happens. If '19 or '20, then definitely an upgrade and not a new system. After that, it then depends on how much of an improvement it is.

Personally, I think the Switch update that's been teased will be a smaller, lighter, cheaper model, considering that the biggest titles planned this year (Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Link's Awakening) have their roots in portable consoles. So a "pro" model might not be for a few more years, in which case they might just choose to make it a whole new console.

Coming in spring 2022 with a full generation leap to back it up. The OG Switch will still be supported for at least it is 7 years old through 1st and 3rd (less demanding) party cross gen releases until it is phased out. This will also be your typical 5 year lifespan for the OG model that Nintendo seems to follow and would not be too far behind the PS5 and NextBox (1.5 years at most).

We may see a NEW Switch type of model that will give a bump in resolution and frame rate in docked mode, but that will be the only notable difference between the two. I do not feel like it will be a X1 to X1X type of difference until the next generation of the Switch line.

Switch Pro isn't necessary. When it is 5 year old then a replacement for Switch is better.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I'm more convinced of a new model if they go the New3DS route with this one. A slight CPU upgrade with the GPU being the TegraX2 and I'd be fine with that.

Re-design of some kind is inevitable i think, but i am not sure it will be the power-boost kind, maybe bigger or smaller and with more storage-space

Nothing to see here, move along

You forgot the 3rd answer :

"there won't be any". Just a brand new system completly different with a different name.

There can be a 1080 Switch with more battery and a noticable upgrade on GPU for higher resolution and higher framerate, but nothing which will allow to port games from the next era like ReviewTechUsa believes.

Games native to next gen will take time though. It usually takes at least 3 years to be at that point. I'd say it'll be possible for the Switch to get games during the first 2 years of the PS5/XboxTwo.

Where's the "small incremental update like the 3DS XL, if any" option. Neither of the ones you chose are realistically happening.
