Forums - Gaming Discussion - Biggest franchise you always wanted to try but never got around to

Metal gear, resident evil, devil may cry, bayonetta, monster hunter, tales of series and a lot more

Around the Network

Animal Crossing and Metroid. Both look decent but not good enough to be a priority for me.

Tomb Raider. AAA action games are my favs, so I figure I'd like the series. The timing just never worked for me, or something.

All the years I've been gaming and I've never played GTA. In fact I have a PS4 copy of GTAV sat here still in cellophane. Only recently played my first Pokémon game with let's go Pikachu (which I think is great) I have since been delving into the franchise, been enjoying Pokémon snap today.

Mass Effect, I got trilogy at the end of the ps3's life cycle but never got around to committing the amount of time needed to play them.

Around the Network

Metal gear solid and maybe metroid are the only ones i can think of.

The Diablo and division franchise. Don't know why I keep skipping it.

Resident Evil - Honestly, I'm only interested in playing Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside cuz they're both light gun shooters :P

Animal Crossing - I don't know ... I've never felt something special about these "life simulation" games ... but it's not to say I wouldn't want to try it once.

If you ever want to move past the light gun shooters, Resident Evil has plenty of great starting places. I started with Revelations on the 3DS. So good. The multiplayer in that is also suprisingly good. Animal Crossing works great as a portable time waster. There's really not a lot of reason to go back and play old ones, as each new iteration mostly obsoletes the last. If the Switch title retains the abilities that New Leaf gave you as mayor, definitely start with it, but if we lose that ability, New Leaf might be worth checking out because being mayor is fun. The only other game maybe worth checking out in the series is the original, as it let you have more characters in your town and the towns felt a bit bigger to me. Also you could unlock fully playable NES games in the original.

Final Fantasy. I have no idea where to even start with this series. The first one? 7, since that’s supposedly the best game ever made? 15?

Start with 6, I'd say. Great villain in that one. I'd rank it above 7 personally. And 7 is very much in competition with several other titles in the series for the best. I think 7 is the bandwagon answer, but 8, 9, and 10 are also fantastic imo. 11 and 14 are MMOs, so avoid those. 12 is meh, 13 is polarizing with some people loving it and a lot of people hating it. 15 I personally find underwhelming. If I were you, I'd start with 6, then go to 7, as that would give you a taste of some of the best from two different eras of FF. 7 was a bit of a change for the series, so if you like 6 more, go backwards to earlier titles, and if you like 7 more, go forward to later titles. That's my take.

For me , its mario and zelda as i never owned a nintendo system and probably never will.
I'd love to try them out but none of my friends own a switch.
There are'nt even trail stations or nintendo stores in my country ( india).
If all that is'nt reason enough, nintendo games are way too overpriced here in india and they never go on sale.
Had terrific experiences on my playstation consoles over the years and will continue to do so.

I'd probably emulate zelda and mario on my pc if i have to.

Yeah I can't blame you if that's your situation. That's tough. I'd personally say emulation is completely fair in this scenario, since if Nintendo doesn't bother to get their games to you, then it's their fault if you have to pirate them. I'd even say it'd be good for them if you emulated them, since if they ever do make a serious effort to sell games in India, you'll have more experience with their games and know what you like and can recommend them to friends. If you have to emulate, Ocarina of Time on 64 and A Link to the Past on SNES are a good place to start with Zelda to decide if you like the 3D or 2D style better, and Super Mario World on SNES and Super Mario 64 would be the equivalent for Mario.
