Forums - Gaming Discussion - GOW becomes the most critically awarded exclusive this gen

Tbf it knocked BotW of my GOAT. Well deserved imo.

Could have sworn that I said this thread wasn’t needed... ;p

I don't remember reading that. Was it an official warning or were you just giving your opinion?

It's just become the most critically awarded exclusive this gen so imo it's thread worthy.

And we have to consider that it had great games competing against him, with RDR2 even showing on the ranking.

Also I prefer GoW much more than RDR2.

So this year RDR2 and GOW made the list. In 2013 TLOU and GTA V did too. Did that happen any other year?

Well that really puts Witcher3 lead in perspective when it dominated its year.

And considering CGI warning, better discuss only the merits of GoW achievement without going on about other games merit or not or possible excessive celebrating over it passing Zelda specifically.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

While I absolutely love Insomniac and their work with Ratchet Remake and Spider-Man and adored Horizon, Infamous, Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy, and even the Order, I can't deny GoW is the best of the bunch. The world is so damn full of life and character at every turn. I felt no inch was wasted and nothing felt repetitive or filler. Every time I entered a new area my jaw would drop and when I reached the end it truly felt like it had been an epic journey. Couldn't believe how long it had taken as it just FLOWED so well through Mimir and Kratos and Atreus' dialogue with each other filling travel time. It's a game I wouldn't even want fast travel in (which I hated in Red Dead as I didn't like that world as much and it took much longer)

I am Iron Man

Can we now say Zelda is overrated by some people logic?

Sorry, but this seems kind of pointless for a multitude of reasons. Hear me out:

How many publications award a Game of the Year? I would imagine that in any given year, there are a small handful of games that receive almost all of the awards. This means that getting the majority of the GotY awards would be influenced heavily based on what other games came out in that year.

Also, notice how just about every game on the list is a relatively new game. Why no Final Fantasy 7? Where's A Link to the Past? Because back then there weren't even close to the number of publications as there are today.

What qualifies a source as credible enough to make this list? Did my GotY vote count?

Maybe organizing this list based on the percentage of awards would be a more interesting metric, but still wouldn't ultimately give an accurate comparison among games that came out in different years.

Not trying to be a hater. I would assume that most of the people on these boards are intelligent enough to notice this themselves, but this is the sort of thing that results in misinformation.

That GOTY website started tracking games in 2003.  The rules are stated on the site:  https://gotypicks.blogspot.com/

Seems legit.

By the way, the winner of 2003 was Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic with 18 votes.

Nobody doubted the credibility of the list when zelda got all it's awards in 2017. This year should be no different. GOW taking 4th spot is a mighty achievement.

Whoa, is that what this is about. Come on, man. This is what causes threads to get deleted.
